Emily starts third grade tomorrow. We went last minute school shoe shopping yesterday. The funny thing is that Emily the shoe nut she's been since the age of two normally selects a pair of Sketchers at her shoe of choice. She love their shoes. However this year she chose a pair of Red shoes. Why did she select those? Very simple, brilliant ( Read more... )

congrats! i loved 3rd grade, and i certainly understand the liking the teacher thing. i was very headstrong, so if i didn't like my teacher, i found myself ignoring instructions and things like that.

You were lucky. I loathed my third grade teacher. She was prejudiced against the poorer kids my the class. I was not among the wealthier kids. I'm not saying I didn't talk in class but I would get a note sent home and the CEO of Champs's son would get off scotfree. My mother had a sit down with her after the vile Mrs. Hurbert gave me an office referral for talking. For talking?!? Are you shitting me? I bit a kid in the first grade and went to the office and didn't get an office referral for that.

Funny thing. She didn't teach there the next school year. :D

ha! i hate teachers like that. i worked in a school my sophomore year in college where some of the teachers (okay most) were absolutely horrendous. but all the kids were poor so it was more that the teachers were jerks to entire classrooms-full of kids who had pretty bad hands dealt to them. my 1st and 2nd grade teachers come to mind as least favorites on my list. along with 5th grade. 3rd grade was fun though. ms. reinhardt was from panama city and like jimmy buffett and when i was in 1st grade, she had me come in and read to her class to shame them, since i could read better than they could. oh, elementary school.

i don't even want to go down the road of remembering how old emily was when i first met you...

It's scary how fast kids seem to grow. She was dropped off without any fuss. In fact she couldn't wait to see the backside of me leaving the classroom. I said bye, but I really didn't need to she would have been fine with me simply gone.

She makes me feel like I doddering old fart all of the time. And I have an increasingly hard time remembering what new pop star is cool this second. Kids today still say cool, right?

She's nine they're all into Hannah Montana but less now than she was last year. From what I can tell Miley = Tiffany Her other fave is the Jonas Brothers, which I don't minds since they actually write their own songs and were playing hole in the wall clubs before they were spotted by a Disney executive in one of the clubs.
