pretty_stickersSummary: Seperation Anxiety is defined as: recurrent excessive distress when separation from home or major attachment figures occurs or is anticipated.
A/N: Starts around near the ending of "Doomsday", and goes basically the same way the rest of the episode does. I haven't seen the episode in forever, so the dialogue might go differently and a few of Rose/Doctors actions might be a bit different than what actually happened.
Rose knew what she had to do. She hung on to the magnetic clamp with every inch of her life, her eyes glued to the Doctor's. Her heart was racing faster and faster and she could barely breathe, but she was here. With him. It was all she needed, all she would ever need. Tears rolled down her cheeks from the effort as he struggled against the powerful sucking of the Void. It threatened to pull both her and the Doctor into it's dark, unyielding chasms between the two parallel worlds. There was Pete's world, where he was alive and her mother dead, where the Cybermen and Daleks first called home. There was her world, the world she had known her entire life and one the she had left to join the Doctor. It felt like not so long ago that she first stepped into the TARDIS.
The TARDIS.
She almost wanted to laugh, thinking of the police-box-looking time travel device. It had brought her life so much meaning, and not only through the vast knowledge she had acquired. In her travels, she had searched for meaning, for purpose, for reason. She found it right next to her, as she continued to watch the Doctor. She had felt for the longest time that she needed these travels in time to find out what her life needed, what it was missing. She knew now that she had found it. She had found what she was looking for, and she hadn't even needed to leave to TARDIS to discover it. To discover him. His mannerisms and quips were dear to her heart, and his goofy smile and kind eyes were exactly what she needed for comfort. He could comfort her, he could reassure her; she knew she needed him more than she needed anything in the world.
There had been countless times when she had wondered to herself what she would do without him; the answer was too ghastly to even think about. She turned, grabbing hold of the lever closest to her. It was powering off, and if it did, the Void would close. The stream of Daleks and Cybermen was slowing down; they had not all been absorbed by the black hole-like power of the Void. She pushed the lever up, using as much strength as she could muster. Her arms strained and screamed in pain as she pushed it up, up, up.
"ROSE! HOLD ON, ROSE!"
His voice in her ear was what kept her secure. The sound of his voice sent a message to her brain, telling her fingers to muster up all the strength in her body. Her body racked against the pull, and she panicked, feeling herself slipping. She couldn't let go! She couldn't go without him. She had to make it.
Suddenly, without warning, her fingers slipped and she slid off of the lever, falling faster and faster into the void. She screamed silently into the air, her voice going unheard. Their hands reached out to one another, but they could not reach.
"ROSE, NOOOOO!"
She was falling, falling ....
She grabbed the air, her body racked with terror. The Void pulled at her body as hard as she worked against it. Suddenly, she felt a hand on her arm as someone materialized next to her. The next thing she knew, she was on the ground. As she lay there in the parallell world, her mother, the other version of her father, and Mickey stood around her. The Doctor ... the Doctor wasn't there. She was in the other world, and the breach was closed. Panic took over, and suddenly, something inside of her snapped.
No. No. No. No. NO. NONONONONONO!
Tears poured down her eyes as she sobbed hysterically, begging Pete to take her back. He frowned, showing her the transportation device. It was broken; there would be no more crossing over. She stood, her body weak. Her arms and legs felt as if bricks were tied to them and her head was hot in terror. She turned, facing where she knew the wall between the worlds was. She placed her hand over it, closing her eyes and breathing in deeply. She knew, on the other side of that wall, he was there. Right across that wall ....
She collapsed to the ground, no tears spilling from her eyes. She began to rock, back and forth. She had failed. She had lost the only person who mattered to her anymore. The only person who could comfort her, the only person who could give her what she needed. The only person who could save her soul.
SEVERAL MONTHS LATER
She ran forward, her heart pounding. She had heard his voice, if only so slightly! He was in her dream, and he was here! He would be standing right where he said he was, waiting for her to welcome her into his arms. He would hold her, and whisper into her ear that he would never leave her again, ever.
She came to an abrupt stop as she noticed his form. But he was see-through, pale ... almost as if he were a ghost.
"Hello, Rose Tyler, Defender of the Earth."
She watched as he explained that he was only an image; he was not actually there. He only had a few minutes before he would be torn away from her. She had to take hold of these few minutes, as they would be the last. The last time she would ever meet, speak with, or see the Doctor. Her heart felt heavy in her chest as she listened to him. Taking a breath, she spoke, telling him of her mother's pregnancy and her new work with Torchwood Institute. Her eyes filled with tears as they stared at one another in longing. The image started to falter, and she sobbed, her heart breaking over and over again. His unspoken words echoed through her mind, her connection with him allowing her to understand him on a level she had never had with anyone else.
I had to see you once last time, Rose.
"Doctor, I ... I love you. I love you."
He smiled, his own tears creating glistening crystals rolling down his cheeks.
"Rose Tyler ..."
Suddenly, his image faltered and shorted out. Her eyes opened wide in shock, and she ran forward, banging against the air.
"NO! NO! NO! Doctor! DOCTOR!"
She realized that he was gone. Gone. Gone. The word echoed around in her head like a bebe, causing her to grab her head in grief. She sunk to the ground, wrapping her arms around herself. For the second time in one year, Rose Tyler sobbed uncontrollably as she grieved the loss of the only man she would ever love with every millimeter of her heart.
