Depends on the execution of the type. (Now here I go getting all graphic designey. :P :) ) I think if the type melds wel with the peice, like hand written ink type over layed with a charcoal and conte. THe type creates a texture that not only can be read in the literal sense, but in a visual sense as well. This also goes for painting. What doesn't work artisticly is when you create domething with a lage blank space to go in and slap some two minute text on it. That looks cheezy and give a viewer a feeling that the artist didn't care to take the time to make the text work.
I'm not saying computer genorated typefaces on art is a no. Hell, I'd be going against my major! :) But it needs to be integrated well into the peice. THe stroke size, color, inter line spacing and all those things need to be concidered. If you want the text to stand out, you can do so in a more artistic way than slapping it on there and calling it good. :)
i say it would look good if you did it but as long as you dont make it to where the text clashes your painting.... like haveing huge letters and/or having it a crazy color..... just make sure it balances out everywhere.... oh and its not a bad thing to have lyrics in there either, i think that would be pretty sweet.... heh.... just talking about this just gave me an idea for my next photo project... thanks...
I actually just made a collage with a bunch of lyrics on it... I think that if the lyrics inspire the art, or have any meaning to you at all, they belong in expressions of who you are. It's no different than quoting poems or books or anything. Interpretation of others' work-- visual, written, or otherwise-- is important in art. Anyway, go for it.
