IC:

Character name: Black☆Star
Fandom: Soul Eater
Timeline: Chapter 81
Age: 14? (guesstimate)
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:

Soul Menace: Soul Eater canon deals a lot in the strength of the soul and various attacks are centered around it. Black☆Star has the ability to literally drive his soul wavelength into someone else and attack them from the inside out. It comes off similar to electrocution, and he simply needs to make contact with his hand in order to hit his opponent. Not only that, but his soul appears to be incredibly strong -- much stronger than most, giving him a MUCH more powerful burst of energy when he attacks. This attack alone generally isn't enough to kill an opponent, but definitely enough to knock them out or at the very least jar them if they're extremely strong of soul.

Madness: In the recent chapters, Black☆Star acquired a new ability to use the madness wavelength as a tool for strengthening his attacks. This allows him to become increasingly stronger and even enhances some of his skills with Tsubaki -- however, it runs a risk of driving him completely mad.

How would they use their abilities?: Possibly in spars since it's not lethal, but mostly in fights.

Appearance: Although Black☆Star has gone through a growth spurt in the recent chapters of the manga, he is still relatively short -- short, yet stocky. He is small yet sinewy, a testament to all of his hard work and training. Blue hair sits unruly on his head, dipping into teal eyes -- both of which stand in stark contrast with his dark tan skin. On his right shoulder is the tattoo of a star, denoting his heritage as a member of the hoshizoku (the star clan). Going right through the center of that star is a fresh scar, picked up from his final battle with Mifune. He wears it proudly.

Background/Personality: Welcome to Shibusen -- location, Death City. Shibusen is run by (and protected by) Shinigami-sama himself, whose soul is bound to the city. This is the place where the world gets saved on a daily basis by pairs of students (both weapon [parenthesis inside parenthesis -- yes, some of the kids can turn into weapons] and meister, the one who controls and guides that weapon). These teams must destroy 99 bad guys and allow the weapon to eat those souls along with 1 witch's soul in order to become a Death Scythe. The Death Scythe, thus, will be used by Shinigami-sama, which is, of course, the ultimate goal. Breaking this down a bit more, the souls they eat are also referred to as Kishin (people who have deviated off the path of good and began to devour human souls for the power, which of course is forbidden because hello, it's evil).

The story centers mainly around a team of three meisters and four weapons yes, four. SOMEONE has an obsession with being symmetrical. The book-smart Maka who wishes to follow in her mother's footsteps and turn her partner Soul into a Death Scythe. She is the brains, cutes, and soul-sensing part of the team. Then, there is Shinigami-sama's son, Death the Kid whose strength is unparalleled but whose passion of symmetry is often his downfall. Liz and Patty, the pistols who are symmetrical in weapon form but not as humans, are his well-balanced choice. Last, and best of all--! ...is the student who will surpass God himself and his ultimate, multi-mode weapon Tsubaki. The meister to end all meisters, for no meister shall ever be as great as he -- the one, the only.. Black☆Star!!!!!1!1

Black☆Star was born to the Hoshizoku (star clan) who made their living being money-hungry ninja assassins. The tattoo on Black☆Star's shoulder brands him as one of their members, and at the moment -- the last remaining. But money-hungry ninja assassins tend to piss people off, so they had earned themselves a pretty bad rep with some of the villages. Shibusen decided to take matters into their own hands and eliminate the clan, but Black☆Star, being only a child with no sins against him, was taken in and raised by the school's staff. For that, he holds no grudge. According to him, his parents had done their fair share of crimes and they had to atone for it. Regardless of the fact that he believed he didn't shoulder the burden of his clan's misdeeds, he didn't seem to deny his roots in the face of those who discriminated against him.

And thus began the legacy of the school's number one and most incredible student to ever exist--! Black☆Star was confident; so confident that it was ridiculous to most of the students. When he wasn't bragging about how he would be number one, he would give monologues about how he would surpass God. One such day, Black☆Star was giving a particularly self-confident speech to the students below and the only one who stayed and listened to the very end was Tsubaki (a tenderhearted weapon who subsequently seemed to be the only one with the patience enough to put up with Black☆Star's personality).

An unbeatable team was born!!!1!11

With Tsubaki's gentle, understanding, easy-going and compassionate attitude and Black☆Star's....well....to put it kindly, idiocy -- the pair would bravely face any obstacle that came their way. As a matter of fact, they were so unstoppable and so unbeatable that they hadn't managed to get a single kishin soul. The reason for this was that Black☆Star was so incredible that even the kishin all cowered in fear and fled from the great him -- at least that's what he believed. The real reason was that his stealth skills = 0. His overconfidence got in his way. And he was often his largest obstacle. And what was with yelling 'YAHOOOOOOO!!!!' in the face of danger? The fact that he had such an incredible weapon made everyone wonder just why he couldn't seem to obtain one single kishin soul. It was often believed that Black☆Star held Tsubaki back.

However, the complexity of their partnership was something only understood between the two of them. Whether it was the conflicting nature of their souls (showcasing that classic statement of opposites attracting) or whether they simply respected each other on a level that could not be explained, Black☆Star showed that he trusted Tsubaki when he allowed her to battle her brother Masamune on her own. As a result, they obtained a new mode for their weapon -- the demon blade. Should I even mention how many times Black☆Star attempted to use it before he could handle it?

Regardless of all the jokes about his ability, Black☆Star is quite capable. He is fastest of Kid and Maka, and probably runs a close second as far as strength goes when it comes to Kid. He excels in close-range combat, and he is the only one with the ability to drive his soul wavelength into an opponent. While his arrogance could get in the way at times, when it is needed... Black☆Star is there. He has pulled Maka and Kid out of some pinches, and they have done the same for him. The group became a team that sometimes clashed and sometimes even lost, but one that never gave up.

But that isn't to say the story is without its downsides.

The witch Medusa (their main antagonist) came up with a plan to revive the first ever kishin -- which would spread insanity and all sorts of evil around the world. See, Shinigami-sama managed to lock him away beneath Shibusen -- lock him in a bag of his own skin as a matter of fact (yum yum) -- and to make sure he stayed put Shinigami-sama's soul was bound to the city. On Christmas Eve, there was a celebration in honor of Shibusen, and it was that Christmas Eve Medusa orchestrated her attack. Our awesome team managed to escape and proceeded to move onward to prevent the kishin from being revived. Black☆Star fought his way to the very end, into the room with the kishin himself where the insanity and hallucinations filled the atmosphere. He boasted that his sixth sense sucked, so he wouldn't be affected by the hallucinations.

Unfortunately, he was wrong.

Just when Black☆Star thought he had saved the day, Kid informed him that his guard had been down and at the last minute...because he was so desperate, because he pushed himself further than his limit -- he allowed himself to hallucinate. Devastated, Black☆Star collapsed in anguish -- unable to believe he had failed and the team watched helplessly as the kishin was revived.

After this unfortunate event, Black☆Star entered a succession of failures -- each one grating at him until he damaged his soul from forcing himself to use Tsubaki's demon sword mode when his body couldn't handle it. As a result, he was unable to shoot off his wavelength. He became obsessed with power -- no matter what the cost. His friends worried this was the path of a kishin, and it wasn't until a humiliating defeat by Kid that Black☆Star began his path to healing. He left with Tsubaki and eventually mastered her demon sword mode, returning to help his friends and face Mifune. They battled long and hard, a third and final battle that was not between two enemies, but two men who had grown and respected each other. Mifune had sworn his life to protecting the witch Angela (who was nothing more than a helpless child but hated because she was a witch). Although he wasn't a bad man, the samurai was unable to deviate from this path. Black☆Star had no choice but to fight him and defeat him, but to leave him alive in their final battle would have been an insult.

The blood stained his hands, but the respect was something that could never be lost. Black☆Star promised to become a bushin in his honor.

In the meantime, Soul and Maka were busy fighting Arachne (Medusa's sister who had stirred up a bunch of crazy shit). Even though she was defeated -- new trouble was brewing and said trouble had kidnapped Kid.

A team was assembled to rescue him from where he was trapped within the Book of Eibon. And genderbending, tasty enemies, and excalibur (the very annoying, very arrogant ultimate sword) aside...Black☆Star was the one to finally find Kid. However, when he found him -- he quickly realized that Kid was not his normal, symmetry-loving self. Black☆Star took on Kid while some giant goo blob watched and got his jollies from them fighting before he pretty much engulfed Black☆Star with madness in the form of Black☆Star's desire to be the ultimate power. So we had an epic fight, and then Black☆Star broke free from the madness and through his idiotically shounen speech, managed to get Kid back to his senses.

Giant goo blob then let them out of the book where they ran into Noah, and with their new bromance powers of madness, Kid and Black☆Star took him on with the help of their friends and defeated him.

Personality: If there was a picture definition of self-confidence or arrogance, Black☆Star would be there with his thumb up and a huge grin on his face. He is the epitome of self-confidence -- so confident in himself that he can even explain off his failures because of his greatness. Black☆Star claims that he is the one who will surpass God and that he is number one in all aspects. If anyone seems to stand out more than he does, he gets pissed pretty quick and will either challenge them to a fight or do something obnoxious to stand out more. He's spastic, energetic and loud...and in serious need of ritalin; so loud in fact that he tends to botch up his own stealth missions by yelling something obnoxious.

Black☆Star is pretty self-deluded, but while that can be an annoyance to some...it seems to be the source of his strength. It is because he believes he is so great that he becomes great. He never allows himself to think he can lose because that would be worse than being defeated. If there is an obstacle in his way, then you can bet he will push through it. He houses raw determination to persevere and has drive like you wouldn't believe, proving that while he is 90% talk...he CAN back up those words.

You would think that with such pride and arrogance, Black☆Star would be unable to relate to others. And you would be correct! The truth is, he can show a considerable amount of compassion on the rare occasion. There was a moment when his weapon Tsubaki had come back from battling her brother. She's the type of person who always hides her feelings for the sake of others. After returning, she claimed that she was fine. Knowing better, Black☆Star questioned her again and said that she can come and hug the great Black☆Star. Tsubaki then broke down while he comforted her. It is rare that he shows this side, but behind that mask of confidence...there is a kid that cares very deeply for his friends.

But that certainly doesn't mean he's the brightest. As a matter of fact, he studies hard for all of his exams and still manages to get zeros, which is really quite impressive. Black☆Star will be the first to try something without thinking; he's a doer not a thinker...and that often stands as his battle strategy.

1st person sample:

[ When the video begins, it's basically a close up of Black☆Star's nostril. It pans back a bit to reveal his face -- super focused and concentrated on getting this started. Once he realizes it's recording, he closes his eyes and sucks in a breath. ]

WHAT IS THAT GREAT, GODLY PRESENCE SHINING ON YOUR SCREEN?!?! THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR -- THE MOMENT WHEN YOUR GOD HAS FINALLY SHOWN HIS FACE. THE STAGE IS SET AND THE MAIN PLAYER IS FINALLY IN THE SPOTLIGHT! THE GREAT BLACK☆STAR HAS ARRIVED!!

So ya know, if ya wanna get to that whole worshipping thing. Feel free.

[ There's a momentary pause, as he actually takes a moment to peer around his surroundings. ]

Uh, so anyone mind tellin' me how long I've been gone?

3rd person sample:

"Oi, oi, oi. You've gotta be kidding me," Black☆Star grumbled when he found himself in the new arrivals office once again.

It was true that he hadn't been away terribly long. Not even a day by day standards. They got out of the book, fought Noah, and he had a few bruises and cuts that needed patched up. But in that short period of time, the doubt he carried with him on the Thor and whenever he ran into Kid had completely vanished. They resolved that problem. Kid wasn't responsible for their world ending, and if Black☆Star was the type of guy to apologize for his way-off-base accusations, then he might've.

But if Kid was still here, then he'd just have to settle for a fist bump and a great to see ya, man.

Black☆Star grabbed a sharpie from his pocket, pulled the cap off with his teeth, and scribbled his signature on the paper work, returning it to the workers with a grin on his face, "There. I gave ya something worth waaaay more than my info. You can probably sell it off for a high price, but I'd recommend framing it. It ain't every day the man who's gonna surpass god gives you an autograph, yanno!"
