The Things We Can't Control Master Post Chapter 65 ~Yasu's Warning~
It took a few minutes to calm Kame down but Jin just kept repeating the reassurance that Koki hadn’t seen the scars and that he wasn’t going to have to explain them. It took another couple minutes of reassurance to convince Kame he hadn’t just made a fool of himself by overreacting.
Jin soothed away the last of the panic and embarrassment with a tender kiss and whispered, “You don’t have to be embarrassed around me, Kame.”
“Habit…” Kame mumbled against his lips, kissing him again.
Jin moaned softly. It still amazed him how much he responded to just a simple kiss like that. But Kame had something he had to do. There wasn’t time for more. Pulling back, Jin reminded him that Koki was waiting for him.
Kame growled and admitted, “I forgot.”
Wow. “Am I really that distracting?”
“You have no idea what you are, Jin. You really don’t. And… if you want, you can call me Kazuya… I mean, nobody else does but I always thought… it would be nice to have someone call me that…” Kame kissed him again and then left without another word, still blushing.
Kazuya, huh? He’d be the only one calling him that? Something special that they could share. Jin rather liked that notion. Kazuya…
Jin stretched back out on the sleeping mat, staring up at the ceiling and grinning stupidly at his thoughts. Jasmine and strawberries and call him Kazuya.
His friend Tatsuya was safe and Jin was head over stupid heels in love. Sometimes life could be really great after all! He hadn’t thought it was possible but he was never happier to be wrong than he was in that moment.

Takeshi and Shuta didn’t have any new information for him. They’d questioned the man Ushio about Yoko but he knew nothing. He’d never heard of the man. They were pretty sure the guy was telling the truth.
When Kame asked them where they’d dumped the man, they told him it was at the corner where Glay’s territory met up with Tokio’s along their border. They figured that was the best place and Kame couldn’t fault that logic. It was the furthest away from the church you could get and still be in Kizuna’s territory. Or, well, the border of it.
Kame thanked the brothers and set them loose to do whatever.
Now what? Kame still had more questions than answers. His father’s plan was still tantalizingly out of reach.
Maybe…
“…ya, are you in here?” Jin’s voice cut through his thoughts. Had he called him Kazuya? Kame smiled. It sounded good to hear.
“Yeah, I’m here,” Kame shouted. As Jin walked through the door into the room, Kame asked, “What’s up?”
Jin scratched the back of his head nervously. “Okay… I… um… didn’t know if I should or not but see, the thing is, when the phone was ringing and there wasn’t anyone… so I… well, like I said, it was ringing and…”
“Jin. Jin, it’s okay. You answered the phone in the office. It’s fine. Anyone is allowed to use it.” Kame managed through sheer force of will to not laugh at how adorably self-conscious Jin was being. Though why did Jin always seem to think he was one step away from being in trouble? Was it because, well, he usually was? It did seem to happen alarmingly often…
“Right.” And Jin looked relieved. “Anyway, that guy from before, the one we went to see? He called. Said to say your warning was too late and he couldn’t warn everyone in time. Told me to tell you to call him back like yesterday.”
Great. Just great. He’d probably want his money back. Well, lacking any other leads, maybe… maybe he could talk to Yasu’s problem personally. Would Yasu let him investigate in JDA territory? It would cost them at least the thousand he’d been given. Probably more.
“Arm yourself, would you? We’re going to talk to him in person again, I think.”
Jin nodded but looked wary. “You want me to get Yurina for you again?”
Damn. He’d forgotten he was going to check on Yurina. No excuse for it. Yes, he had a lot on his mind, but still… after the history there, he really should have made more effort to remember to do that. And he didn’t want to subject her to Yasu again until he was sure she was okay. “No. No, not this time.” It was a shame he’d already turned Takeshi loose. “Just… Koki. Get Koki, yeah? Meet at the car, fifteen minutes.”
A quick call back to Yasu got him permission to stop by once again to discuss the issue. Bring money, the man told him.
Oh, yeah. This was going to be expensive. At least it would be a safer trip this time, since they now had a common problem. Yasu wouldn’t dare strike at him right now.
Koki teased both him and Jin mercilessly the whole trip there. By the end of it, Kame was reduced to blushing furiously and Jin was threatening to break every bone in Koki’s body if he didn’t shut up. That only made Koki laugh harder.
But he did finally shut up, ending with, “Just lock the door next time. Please. We’re all happy you have someone but that doesn’t mean we want to see!”
Then they were there and, taking a few deep breaths, Kame stepped out of the car with Jin and the two of them walked to Yasu’s front door.
This time they were definitely outnumbered, which was nerve-wracking, but they were about as safe as could be expected at a drug dealer’s house. Jin was with him and that helped keep him calm and focused.
The first words out of Yasu’s mouth were, “You didn’t warn me in time.”
It was pretty much what Kame expected to hear. “I warned you as soon as I knew. The rest is not my fault.”
“You came here just to tell me you’re not to blame? All this money you spend on gas would be a bit better served, do you not think so?” Yasu shook his head. “I never understood the way you think, Kame-chan. I still don’t.”
Kame didn’t rise to the bait. Instead, he stayed on point. “I want your permission to investigate the hit in your territory.”
“Ah!” And Yasu nodded this time. “You need a favor, then. Well, I can’t give you something for nothing. My reputation would never survive being taken advantage of by some starry-eyed do-gooder kid.”
“I told you, I’m not a kid anymore. You’re just getting old. What price, then?”
The corners of Yasu’s mouth crept up in a sly smile. Kame didn’t like that smile. He didn’t trust it. “How about you bring her back? I never got my taste back then, you know, and I heard she was tight. They all said it.”

“You bastard…” Kame growled "I should have killed you, you bastard! I should have killed you!" He looked more pissed than Jin had ever seen him before. Ever. And when Yasu started laughing and Kame took an aggressive step towards him, Jin knew something was seriously wrong.
Jin’s hand shot out and snagged Kame’s wrist before he could take a second step. Kame hissed and tried to pull free, snarling, “Let go of me. Now, Jin! LET GO!”
But Jin didn’t let go. He wasn’t sure what was going on but he was not about to let Kame attack Yasu. The man would kill him! He’d kill them both. Oh, sure, they’d put up a fight but they were outnumbered…
“Yes, do let him go. This will be fun.” Yasu just kept laughing. But he did finally stop. “Fine. Enough games. I want my thousand dollars back plus half over again and I’ll let you investigate all you want. Oh, and I expect to be told whatever you find, naturally. At no charge. Do we have an understanding?”
Jin could tell Kame was still fuming because he was muttering under his breath, quietly enough that not even Jin could tell what he was saying. But Kame finally spat, “Yes. We have an understanding.” He spun around, jerking his arm free from Jin. To Yasu, he added, “Give him the address. I’ll be in the car.”
And Kame stormed out, leaving Jin all alone in the drug dealer’s house. That more than anything told Jin just how much the man had upset him. Kame would never leave someone alone here like that. Jin was sure of it. But he got the address.
As he went to leave, Yasu said to him in a surprisingly much more worried tone, “You should watch him a bit closer, I think. Something’s tearing at him and if he snaps, it’ll be dangerous for all of us.” The man sounded genuinely concerned. “Don’t tell him I said that. Just...” and Yasu shrugged, “I dunno, just keep an eye on him, okay?”
As Jin walked back out to the car, he couldn’t help but wonder what the man had meant.

Chapter 66 ~A Second Trip~ A/N: Ooh, Yasu's words are so mysterious. But he's pretty perceptive guy. Actually, he likes poking fun at Kame, pushing his buttons... but I think he really does have a lot of respect for him after all.
