This really begins four days ago, when
happypete was called in to work all night Thursday. We were scheduled to fly to Boston Fri AM. We made it in time to check our bags, but only because
happypete dropped me at the gate with the bags before parking the car.
Yesterday morning our flight was canceled just before we arrived at the airport.
happypete was so offended at the timing, he insisted on saving money by taking the T back to the hotel.
We hauled luggage, a child, and a sleeping baby in stroller on a bus, train, bus, and through stinging wind-driven sleet back to the hotel. Boston bus drivers don't care if you're a baby in a stroller, they close the doors on you anyway.
At the hotel,
happypete realized his laptop was missing.
I stayed with bored, hungry, frustrated tired kids (
iiuciddream and her kids kept us company for a while, which helped a great deal).
We arrived BWI late last night to find the ticket for the car parking had been in the laptop case.
The car had been left running with the keys in the ignition for 4 days.
happypete got us fueled and home. I woke up for the bigger swerves and reminded him to open his eyes.
At home, we were locked out of our house. I fell asleep in the car with the kids.
When I woke up,
happypete had climbed onto the deck and couldn't get down. I tried to get a door open with a screwdriver, got a telephone to him, and went back to the kids who were awake, cold and screaming.
The fire department got
happypete off the deck and us into the house.
The jinx spread to them and their big engine got stuck in our driveway. I think it took them a couple hours to get it out. I don't know, I fell asleep with the baby.
I was supposed to present at 9:00 this AM. Didn't happen. Employers will not be pleased.
Presently
happypete is still in denial making calls to Boston and Cambridge believing that his laptop is not actually in an electronic chop shop.
I'm really hoping to wake up and discover that I fell asleep four days ago watching "Seinfeld".
