My little boy took the School and College Ability Test (SCAT). He scored in the 96th percentile for quantitative, and the 97th percentile for verbal - for fifth grade.

I heard a barred owl call while I was finishing at the barn tonight. It was some distance away up the hill in the woods. I haven't heard owls in a while. Two years ago, when we first lived here, I heard a lot of them - mostly barred owls and barn owls, with the occasional screech owl. I don't know why they've gotten quieter, but I miss them. Goat's Rue is the nastiest tasting stuff. I can't even describe it. I managed 4 doses before I couldn't stand it anymore. At $25 for 2 oz. TRF is having Con's cardiac workup completed on their account. That will estabish whether he has endocarditis, which I will definitely treat. As far as I know, everything else is invasive, expensive, and the prognosis wouldn't be great. But I'll have peace of mind knowing that I didn't lose him to something I could have treated with antibiotics ( Read more... )

I thought Con just had a cough. The problem is really his heart. The cough is likely an early sign of pulmonary edema caused by messed up valves. Best case scenario this is endocarditis which can be treated with antibiotics - after an expensive cardio workup. Only plus is what I learned about identifying a grade 6 heart murmur in a horse ( Read more... )
