That's one small step for a man, one giant leap backward for womankind...

.

This shit is creepy.

All of you out there reading reports of Roberts being "not so bad" and rethinking your ideas of his record need to WATCH the actual hearings and stop reading media representations.

The man has dead, flat eyes. I don't care how cute his demon spawn are, or if his wife is charming, or if he looks like a GQ model (which he doesn't, but anyway). He has dead, soulless eyes, like a serial killer, and he's going to be the Chief Fucking Justice of the Supreme Fucking Court.

Here's hoping he pulls an Earl Warren (although I doubt it will happen). That dude was the attorney general of CA who was a big proponent of the Japanese concentration camps during WWII, and he ended up being the Chief Justice who ruled in favor of all of the civil rights legislation of the 60s and early 70s.

I have yet to listen to the last two installments of Democracy Now!, but will shortly.

As one who suffers severe allergic reactions as result of chronic exposure to smarminess, I may not be "entirely objective" here...

(omits sermon on the post-Enlightenment fairy tale of human "objectivity")

But the first thing that struck me about Roberts, and grows more disturbing by the minute, is how his "expressive" brow never significantly changes its overall configuration. It's as if he's had it surgically altered to perpetual "puppy-dog mode" so that he can always project an overwhelming image of deeeeep benevolent concern without the necessity of troubling himself with unnecessary contrived emotive or muscular strain.

How very practical! (*cough*)

On the Roe v Wade nasty-ness -- I guess this is a good lesson about the limitations of using the existing system to support what we need.

I may have said this before, at the risk of repeating myself: I really seriously hope that women who sleep with men are developing informal but really good education and networks RIGHT NOW (or yesterday) that will make safe abortion easily available to those who want them once R v W is gone. Do it ourselves but safely. All those workers at abortion clinics should maybe start thinking about how to get the info and materials out into the world outside of the current medical/institutional structures...

I am sorry, I don't. But then, that doesn't mean they don't exist or can't be formed. I haven't been actively connected to that particular movement since the early 1990s (not that I don't support it but have gone in other directions with my "on the ground" activism.) Hopefully someone you know and trust who you can speak with verbally would have info on such networks if they exist....?
