Ridiculous excess

So, I went to the eye doctor for the first time in maybe 8 years.  My prescription's just changed a little (for the worse, of course), but my current classes are ridiculously beat up and are desperate for replacement.   So I got to look at new frames.  The styles have changed COMPLETELY since last time I did this-- narrow, tapered rectangles seem ( Read more... )

I wear glasses all the time, too. I figure that for something that is on my face all the time, I shouldn't skimp. I've thankfully got insurance that picks up a good portion... but even with that, I still had to pay around $300.

I got my prescription sunglasses from http://www.zennioptical.com -- you don't get to try 'em on. But they're cheap. And I've been very pleased with them.

So... I'd say... if you can swing it, if you really like the frames, go for it. You'll have them for a couple of years for sure. If you divide the cost by the number of days you'll be wearing them, it's almost negligible!

See, that's exactly the kind of rationalization I was looking for. Thank you! I'm a big fan of the whole "price per day" calculation.

My insurance will cover $150 of frames, but unfortunately they won't pay the extra money for ultra-thin lenses, so I'm looking at about $500 out-of-pocket. Whew! But I am seriously desperate, so I think I'll go for it. I figure I'll keep my current glasses for outdoorsy things, since I can be pretty tough on them. But it would be nice to have a fancy pair to wear to work & just around.

You would be miserable if you skimped on something. Once I skipped the anti-reflective coating. Suffered with that for about a year and finally took them back and had them add it. With glasses you've gotta spend the money. :) After all, they sit on your face! :)

Those are very you. If you can manage it, I agree, it's an investment.
