new things

The ability to read music is pretty much the only thing I got out of piano lessons as a kid. I'm not so great at naming the notes, but I can find and play them relatively easily on various instruments. However, there's this *sense* of music that I think musicians have, that I do not.

Really awesome :) I'm proud of you for doing these things! Music reading is hard. I've known it well, but I'm not completely sure how I'd do with it if I tried being musical again. I knew it for piano, then flute and then euphonium, so both clefts.

I found that I just had to know how to do all the notes so I knew what each step was and then I just started with middle C when I was lost and played up until I was on the right note on the page. Or down. You know. And then you get used to the ones you see frequently. Does that makes sense?
Or with the euphonium, I just wrote the notes above the lines - FCAG - so I could play but see them together. And then learned from that.
