That was beautifully sad and painful. Poor Hugh! Poor Colin! Poor Eric! I hope Maton has the wherewithall to get Hugh and Eric out from under that guy's thumb. Was his name Lucceli? Something like that. He is obviously evil. Marton is a clever one though, and scary when angered, so I bet he can handle this. But goodness, it is being hard on Hugh and Eric in the meantime.
Thanks! And yes, Lucelli is a nasty creature lurking so far away but with hidden influences.. I suspect we won't see the last for him for a while
I also suspect you might be right with Marton, though. He is sneaky by himself, but then he uses his sneaky trickery for the powers of good! Or at least on behalf of the House, who are good enough ;). Fingers crossed he'll listen to Eric, otherwise Hugh's going to have a very nasty journey back home to face the music
In my mind, I can see Marton listening quite carefully to Eric and then deciding Hugh needs a punishment anyway. As a way of welcoming him into the Family, so to speak ;)
Awwww...that was really just tragic. I almost didn't want to read this chapter because I knew it would be. I too hope that Marton and the house can fix things for Hugh, despite the fact that he kidnapped Eric.
So Colin really is dead? I kept hoping that he was alive and Lucelli was keeping him as some sort of hold over Hugh...ya know just in case his mom and sister weren't enough motivation. My biggest hope was that Colin was alive and escaped Lucelli and made his way to America and back to Hugh, but then I always look for happy endings.

I know they were thieves and I should not feel pity but I do, specially for Hugh because he is the one that stayed alive and was blackmailed. Thank you for sharing and please, make Marton find a way. Martha

Thanks! I suspect there's a few fingers crossed for cunning Marton to find a way out, even for the boys with the dubious morals.. certainly I share your sentiment! Mind you, nothing is ever easy and I'm sure Hugh's dubious past will cause a few more problems on the way ;)
