DOH probes rectal surgery on YouTube

Apr 18, 2008 12:47

In brief, a couple of medical personnel used a cellphone camera to film a rectal surgery extracting a perfume bottle from a gay man's rectum. The video showed them making fun of the patient. This video was posted on YouTube.  The unwarranted violation of the person's privacy has been harped on and people have made their indignation known. I don't ( Read more... )

Hmm, actually, the way I interpreted Duque's statement (the line you posted above) was that he simply meant to say that the act (I'm assuming he was referring to the actions of the health care practitioners) should not have been done to any patient, regardless of gender and/or sex. Am I getting it right? In that case, where's the problem?

Oh, and you had a typo:

What's sad isn't just that Duque is afraid that there are people think this way. What's sad is that many people actually do.

Whoops, sorry, you had two typos in the sentence, apparently.

What's sad isn't just that Duque is afraid that there are people who think this way. What's sad is that many people actually do.

"that" and "who" should be in it.

Yeah, you're right about the who, but dropping the that is acceptable kaya.

Anyway, what was done was unacceptable period. The fact that it had to be emphasized that this was unacceptable no matter what sex/gender is an indicator of where society is right now when it comes to how it treats people depending on their sex/gender (obviously, not a very good place).

I don't know if you've seen the video or not, but I found it here: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f27_1208563235&p=1 for anyone who's curious, too.

I haven't gotten around to checking the video myself (Does that make me an irresponsible social blogger? I'm not sure.), but I did make it a point to not post the link. I didn't want to enable people to watch it so they could leer and jeer at it, too.=P But hey, the link's here now and I generally make it a policy not to erase comments.

Oh, haha, sorry. I thought the reason you didn't link was because it had been removed from YouTube. I wanted to see the actual video because I thought that had the homophobic undertones--turns out, I don't understand Bisaya :|--and I also thought it would provide everyone a basis, I guess, to see for themselves and thus to make their own opinions about it.

That said, you do have my permission to screen my comment, if you don't want to delete it. This is your journal and you ought to be able to manage its content; sorry for that. :P

Actually, yun na nga ang dilemma ko! On the one hand, I'm all in favor of letting people decide for themselves. This could all too easily turn out to be an overreaction. Pero on the other hand, creating more publicity for the video might further infringe upon the dude's right to privacy. So I'm stumped.

And I don't delete comments nga.=P
