On world peace and the false promise of free market

The other day I was watching Penn & Teller's Bullshit.  That particular episode was about the bullshit that surrounds world peace.   Essentially showing how so called "activists" are really in it to gain attention and make fools of themselves.  But the real substance of the episode was their idea of world peace can be achieved once we learn to just ( Read more... )

acceptance as the key to world peace is just as idealistic as business is. when have nations or peoples in history simply tolerated each other without a financial or logistical reinforcements? the truth is, there can never be world peace, because people are not inherently peaceful. if we were, we'd have reached utopia ages ago and all be bored out of our minds.

I agree, and i guess that's my point. Although, on the free market front, I am refering a bit as well to all the sound bytes that ive heard on the campaign trail, where relying on the market seems to be a common strategy. So although I dont think that world peace is possible for the same reason you stated, doesnt mean we cant analyze what has the market done for us, and where its weaknesses are. I feel like we have forgotten that the last time we looked at the market as our solution, it ended up crashing on us and bringing about the great depression.
