Meditation; Artistic Self-Knowledge & Mental Mastery

Aug 02, 2008 08:39

The singlest most difficult part of meditation has to do with the part of oneself that cannot be seen. In short, one is self-ignorant, simply unable to recognize aspects of their own being. Lacking knowledge of oneself is a critical error that has several results, a stressful mind and difficulties in relationships, reistance to reality, being at ( Read more... )

Great article sophia_sadek August 2 2008, 22:40:05 UTC
Thanks for the posting.

There was an article a few years back in a local paper about people who wigged out during meditation. The practitioners interviewed by the paper pointed out that the meditation wasn't the cause of their mental distress, but that it allowed them to face something that was there all along.

I wasn't able to meditate until later in life. When I was young, it was simply too difficult for me.

Do you find with meditation, you do it because you value it, but then fall back into way too much analysis afterwards, even more so then normal? I find i become way too cerebral because its a habit and the norm.
Plus the fact that i use it as an escape from reality.

For me, there is no cerebral aspect. The mind is active, I just ignore it's actions and remain aware of other aspects. The body sensation / foundation is critical for me in stilling the mind, and puts to rest the mind-speak.

The thinking cerebral action is what eventually becomes quiet, yet normally meditation will seem to make more 'mind chatter', what I believe is really happening is that the action that is always there is simply made present during meditation, thats when one can see what is really going on.

You know, when it comes to espacing reality, I'm sure that meditation is one of the best to have because of it's other benefits. :)

Hm. Thats where i struggled alot, with the body sensation/foundation.
Every time i'd meditate, i'd end up self sabotaging later.
I went and saw someone to reconfigure my values with, and sure enough: Avoiding pain was at the top.
So after a few years of trying to deal with things and meditate, only to find everything fell apart straight afterwards, everything changed. Now on the top is health.
There is still that nagging voice that tells me i need to be doing more, not just sitting around doing nothing. Looks like thats the next one to hit.
All i know is i got excited after meditating because my mind was so better focused, so i used it more. lol.
You should add me on facebook: http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php?id=596212601 - i dont pop on livejournal as much and would like to talk a bit more about it.
