chokingday “Do we have to do this?” Nozawa asked as he was dragged through the entrance to the zoo.
“Yes, it’ll be fun.” Sanada replied, “Besides it’s a date.”
“Yes I know, you’ve said thousands of times,” Nozawa grumbled, pulling himself from Sanada’s grip and straightening his collar,
“But did we have to come all the way out here? I mean, it looks like it’s about to rain” He held out his hand in the air to make sure.
But Sanada didn’t hear, too preoccupied buying them a map. He pulled it open and laid it on the ground to examine it.
“Right so we’re here.” He pointed to the symbol of gates on the map with ‘entrance’ written beside it. “Now where should we go first?”
He considered for a moment before continuing, “I don’t think they’ll have those giant, long-necked polka dot animals so we’ll see the giraffes instead.”
“What are you on about?” Nozawa frowned but Sanada was too busy examining the map. He thrust his index finger at the little cartoon giraffe picture not far from where they were, “There! Let’s go!”
Before Nozawa had any time to react Sanada had grabbed his wrist and was pulling him in the direction of the giraffes.
-
“Oh, it was a dream?” Nozawa asked as he watched the giraffe munching happily on leaves.
“Yeah, it was pretty epic.” Sanada replied waggling a branch through the bars in an attempt to get the giraffe’s attention. “We had this really amazing date and saw loads of really cool animals and we rode on some lions, it was brilliant. So I thought we should come to the zoo and have a really cool time like that.”
“You know we can’t actually ride on lions, right?”
Sanada smiled, “Yes, I know. It’s a bit sad that I have to cut that part out. That part was really fun. Maybe we can ride on something else instead.”
“I don’t think they let you ride on any of the animals.” Nozawa moved away from the bars. “Giraffes are kinda boring. Where shall we go to now?”
“Lions?” Sanada offered.
“They’re not gonna let you ride one.” He replied as they moved away down the path.
-
The lion enclosure was closed that day as were others that they wanted to see.
“We should have just gone shopping,” Nozawa commented as he trundled behind Sanada who was holding up the map out in front of him.
He hummed in reply, “How about penguins. They’re funny looking. Shall we see them?”
“Can’t we just go home? I don’t really want to spend my day off here and it still looks as though it’s going to rain.”
“I think we saw penguins in my dream. I think that’s where we held hands. I think it’s a sign.”
Sanada was grinning happily and Nozawa couldn’t help but let him have his little moment.
“Fine, we’ll see the penguins.” He agreed reluctantly.
-
The penguins were a lot more interesting than Nozawa gave them credit for. They had been allowed to throw fish to feed them and Sanada had constantly made cracks at how funny the penguins looked in between attempting to hold his hand, which Nozawa simply brushed away.
“Hey! It’s you!” Sanada exclaimed later pointing to a big gorilla that was sat in the middle of the monkey pen.
Nozawa faked looking offended, “Well, if I’m that one, then you must be that one.” He replied pointing to a monkey that was hanging from a branch scratching itself.
Sanada grinned, “No, that’s Abe.”
They both burst into fits of giggles. “Oh, I so see that!” Nozawa laughed and they went into a long discussion as to which monkey looked like which member of their group, and then onto other juniors. Soon after they had exhausted comparisons with their senpai, Sanada announced he was hungry.
-
It started raining just as they’d purchased their food.
“This didn’t happen in my dream.” Sanada mumbled as they took shelter under a veranda. They huddled close together, not necessarily to warm up but because it seemed everyone else visiting the zoo had decided to shelter under the same veranda.
“I’m sure none of this happened in your dream.” Nozawa retorted picking at the packet of food and wishing he’d brought his sister’s umbrella with him, “can’t we just go home?”
“But we’re on a date. We never go on dates. It’ll be fine. It’ll stop raining in a minute.”
Nozawa sighed, “Why don’t we just go back to mine and watch a movie or something? It’ll be much more interesting… and warmer.” He added huddling closer to Sanada.
“We could get warm in your bed.” Sanada ventured.
Nozawa smiled, “We’ll see. Shall we go?”
Sanada nodded and pulled out the map. He opened it up and they huddled beneath, squealing as the rain soaked through while they ran back towards the entrance.
