I returned to my desk from lunch yesterday to find an envelope of money, left there by an elderly Italian gentleman. The note inside said "thanks for your help with the job".

Just a heads up to peeps that use the ad-supported LJ option. The ad server is redirecting to malware sites. Apparently Firefox and IE are vulnerable, Opera just kinda goes "meh", but AVG catches it first.

After 6 years to the day, on 8 April, I retired my install of Windows2000 when it just couldn't find the desire to boot. It lost its way in searching for the "/systemroot/system32/config/system" file after a final board swap and driver upgrade. So our Facilities Manager was using some Old English (wood stain, not the malt liquor) to touch up some scratches on doors around the building. After seeing that she'd gotten a fair amount of it on her hands, I told her, "Careful, if you get any more of that on you, you're going to get a scholarship".

All of the hubbub over the weekend with the protests was interesting. While I didn't get a chance to get over to the fun on Sunset Blvd., I did get a kick out of seeing the plane that was circling with the "HONK IF YOU THINK SCIENTOLOGY IS A SCAM" banner. Another round of PC upgrades for the month brings loads of empty boxes into my office. Someone asked, jokingly, as they breezed past my door, "Are you building a fort?". My reply, "I am now...."

People should know not to suggest silly things to me... that's how things like "Fort Boxlington" arise...
