I think I speak for all of us when I say we're so sorry for your loss of Greta, Doc.

Our thoughts are with you tonight.

I second this.
I also know what you mean abotu cat-shaped holes in your heart. I was thinking the same thing the past several months. My now ex-housemate had two cats whom I was close to, particularly one of them.
One day in July, in the morning she did her usual pop of the head from the backyard and sounded like a squeaky toy, she could barely speak. He took her to the vet. Sure enough it was a tumour rupturing. Like Greta, Chilli (he named his cats after food - Chilli and Fetta), wasn't displaying any symptoms, she was happy, probably napping more but still very kitten like at 12.
I still cry just about every night thinking of how much I miss her. I ended up adopting my own cat a few months later, after my housemate moved back to Tassie. But the idea of having another cat rubbing itself over the very corners Chilli did killed me.

Luckily the cat I adopted from a private shelter, L-Series (named after the Canon pro lenses, because i'm a photography student) is a tabby and nothing like Chilli who was black and white longish fur ( ... )
