It takes two minutes to remove someone from your IM lists, even if that person has eight handles across five different clients. You can filter incoming e-mails straight to trash if you don't want to deal with someone again. You don't run into your online exes around town.

That's a great article.

I've never had an online romance, but I've definitely had my share of online platonic relationships. You know as well as I do that it comes with the "job". It's definitely easy to cut people off.

But I find that it is almost just as easy to cut people off in the offline world even if you live in the same city.

Almost. You can cut them off, but you still might end up in the bus with them or seeing their gaze in the mall. You can't just make them invisible or incapable of approaching you.
