I read the first three books, and it seemed like she wrote them in mind of just doing a trilogy. Then I read the next few, and it seemed like she was trying to force more out of the series than was initially planned, and shifted the focus from a vampire hunter series, to flat-out smut.
I don't mind smut, but it certainly wasn't how the series started. By book 3 (if I recall from so many years ago) she killed the most powerful, and oldest vampire on the planet. And it didn't even make sense. It was established the vampire moved at inhuman speeds, and had full control of Anita's brain, and then itty-bitty Anita picks up a sword and kills the mega-vamp-bitch.
I like sex. I like the supernatural, and at least she started the faerie series more in line with both. Perhaps I'll read the rest of those some day, but I just don't have any interest in Anita Blake, perhaps other than the Edward novel.
