Oh, honestly. It's another of those weekends again, isn't it? It certainly seems so, if the state of the Network is any indication. And really, I suppose I ought to consider myself lucky, since I don't seem to have been affected by it today. I didn't wake up with wings, and as far as I can tell I'm exactly the age I ought to be, and my hair's not ( Read more... )

A Thanksgiving dinner, you mean?

Yes, that's it. I'm afraid I sometimes get it backwards, because it always seems to sound better the other way around, and we don't have it where I'm from, anyway.

I agree, it does make a little more sense the other way. Yet the name is what it is.

Why have a dinner, though? If your world doesn't celebrate it, no one's forcing you. I somehow doubt that the City has a history that makes the holiday relevant, either.

Well...it's because my best friend used to, really. He's the one that introduced me to it. And I do think it's a lovely idea for a holiday, to be glad and think about everything we're thankful for, and I'd very much like to keep celebrating it because...well, because my best friend isn't here anymore, but one of the things I'm most thankful for is that I had the chance to know him while he was.

In that case, I can see where you're coming from. You have your own history that's intertwined with the holiday itself.

[ For Arthur, it's just another holiday. Not to say that he doesn't have good memories of it or anything. ]

That's what makes any holiday a holiday, isn't it? That there's something important about it that makes it special? So it's not so different, really.

Are you planning to celebrate it, may I ask?

No, you're right. One holiday can hold many different meanings, depending on the person.

I haven't really thought about it. I might.

I think that's very true, yes.

Well, my friend Penny and I were planning to have a great big dinner all together for all of our friends, so you're welcome to come to ours, if you'd like.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm not sure of what I'll be doing then, of course, but the invitation is appreciated all the same.

Yes, of course. And there are, um, still a few weeks yet, of course, so there's plenty of time to decide. But of course, you're very welcome if you'd like, and I'll make certain to save a place for you, if you, er, decide you'd like to come.

I'll let you know ahead of time if I can't make it. There'll be turkey, I take it?

Oh, yes. But if you don't like meat, since I know there are some people who don't, we'll have plenty of other things, too. And of course, if there's something you'd like to have, we'll certainly do our best to make sure to have some on the table for you, as well.

I'm many things, but a vegetarian is definitely not one of them. As long as the turkey isn't too dry and there's some good wine to go with everything, I can't really complain.

Well, I'll be sure that there's some good wine around, then, since we'll certainly have turkey for it.

You're too kind, Rosella. I'd bring my own if I were to come, of course. Something suitable for the occasion.
