What suffices for "dancing" in modern times is pretty different from the waltz that I'm sure you're familiar with.

It is, very much so. As I understand it, there's quite a bit of stepping back and forth, and also some turning in a slow circle involved.

The more proper modern forms of dancing, sure. They're still somewhat coordinated and even a little choreographed. Not the waltz, of course, but there's some method to it.

Do people still swing dance in modern times? I've learned how to do that since coming here, and that's great fun, too. Much quicker than waltzing, but just as entertaining, I should think.

It's still around, though with the older crowd I think? While I do know how to dance pretty well, I'll admit that my knowledge on the history of dance in general could use some work. It's changed a lot over the years where I come from.

Well, would you like to come to our lessons? From what I can tell, we'll have quite a variety of people there--some modern, some old-fashioned. Perhaps you can pick up a bit of history that way.

Dance lessons? [ And he actually does laugh a little at this. ]

Maybe. It does sound like it could be interesting.

You're certainly welcome to, if you like! The ball isn't until the 14th, so there's still some time to get ready before then.

So I read.

And sure, I could probably drop by once or twice. In any case, it couldn't hurt to practice a bit.
