Fabulous pictures, Prim, of a fabulous place! I hope I get there one day. It truly is a magnificent part of the country. And thank you for photographing the information signs - they are great to read and get some context to the images. The lodge looks pretty neat, too! Was it crowded this time of year?
Thanks! I had more of the information signs, but I decided not to post too many of them. I like them, too. I hope you can see it one day.
I had known that November is a slower time of year, although there were still quite a lot of people. Most of them were foreigners who seem to love our national parks. I didn't stop by the lodge until 3:30 PM and the check-in time was 4 PM. They luckily had a vacancy, otherwise I would have had to drive an hour or two back out of the park to find someplace to stay...in the dark. I'm not a fan of driving winding mountain roads in the dark. :D
Thanks. The photos were taken in the morning in some cases, so the light wasn't too good. There is one taken on the Merced river with trees turning a gold color that I really love. It's easy to take a whole lotta pictures and only get one or two very good ones.
Great pics, Prim! So glad you got to go and got a room at the last minute and all.
I've stayed at Yosemite twice in my life, but only once officially. That was with my parents and sister when I was a teenager. The second "stay" was on Thanksgiving of 1991 (or maybe '92) when we went up to Yosemite to cross-country ski and make a full Thanksgiving dinner over a campfire (my friend's plan - not mine, and she did a great job!). There was a big wind storm and they were afraid trees would blow down so they evacuated the campgrounds and we ended up sleeping on the floor of the Yosemite Lodge Cafeteria with about a hundred other people. ;) It was certainly a memorable holiday.
Yes, really. We did have our sleeping bags and pads, so it wasn't too bad. And, yes, we did get to eat Thanksgiving dinner. We had turkey, carrots, potatoes, pie for dessert and I can't remember what else. But, it was quite a meal. I'm trying to remember. It might be that the evacuation was the night after Thanksgiving, but I can't remember for sure. I know we ate and I know we skied and evacuated, but I can't remember the exact timing of it all. It was a long time ago. LOL
I learned to ski at Badger Pass. My father taught me how. I have not skiied since my early 20's though. But I have good memories from it. I am in awe of that dinner!

OMG, really? I think my sleeping arrangements were slightly more comfortable, though not as memorable.
She fixed Thanksgiving dinner over a campfire? That's some planning, that is. :D Did you get to eat the dinner before the evacuation? I hope so.
