Redwood Canyon Kings Canyon National Park

I went to Cambria last Saturday, but before I post photos of that, I went to Kings Canyon National Park yesterday and hiked on the Redwood Canyon trail. Or more correctly, I hiked part of the Hart trail which is in the same area. It was very strenuous for me. I walked 3.5 miles and it took 3 hours. I'm not in the greatest shape, so I was proud I ( Read more... )

When I opened my car door upon arrival at the grove, the first thing that hit me was that pine smell. I was immediately entranced.

I live so close, but sometimes I wish I lived right there among them. Imagine taking a walk there each day?

I didn't post my photos of a giant sequoia log that had been felled, and some man had hollowed it out and used it like a cabin. I would be terrified of bears and other wildlife, not to mention snow in winter. But what a place to live otherwise. He did that back when they were logging trees there still.

Great pics, Prim! Thanks so much for sharing. I love walking through sequoia groves - though I don't think we ever went to that particular one. We went to Sequoia NP much more often than to Kings Canyon, largely for practical reasons of campground location, I think. It's been a long time since I was in a sequoia grove, but I always enjoy those visits, so I know what you mean. It is very hard to show the scale of things in pictures. You really have to visit to fully understand.

Good for you managing the hike. We went on a strenuous hike out east a week and a half ago and my thighs were sore for days (and I still have evidence of scrapes I got from the rocks we climbed over). I'm hoping this will inspire me to get into better shape now that I am finally back home (as of yesterday afternoon).
