Calgary Entertainment Expo 2009

I was extremely disappointed with the Expo this year. I had to wait for at least a half hour in a huge line to get in (even though I had bought my ticket weeks before) and this was two and a half hours after the convention had started. There was triple the amount of people that showed up but the venue was the same so it was literally stifling in ( Read more... )

I'm really not big on conventions for those reasons. Too many people, too much money. All i would want to do there is buy cool stuff anyway and it would probably end up being way more expensive than it should be. I wouldn't be interested in seeing or talking to actors and other celebrities. Now a film festival, that I could get behind.

I'd like to go to the Penny Arcade eXpo sometime, since they seem like a couple of great guys and it always looks interesting. By and large though, conventions would just end up being places for me to buy games or movies and I can do that from home. A film festival would be neat, but, again, something I could do at home, as long as I could get hold of the movies in question.

I like Olmos, and all, but no way would I spend money to have my picture taken with him, or anyone else. Unless by doing so I could somehow make money off it in turn, at a profit.

Yeah the charging money fro pics was a bit weird at the con in Toronto. Although I have heard most do it because if they did it for free the pics (which they usually sign) will end up on ebay and they see no money from that, so they charge up front. I can understand that as an actor your face is your product, you "sell" yourself basically to make a living so charging for autographs is part of that. Shattner and Nimoy charged about $100 if I recall for a group deal.
