Summary: Saeki visits Ohtori. Fluff warning.
Just as he had hoped, Kojirou Saeki successfully left his class right when dismissed, avoiding anyone who wanted to chat with him with a simple explanation of going to visit his friend in the hospital which seemed to be enough for any girls to swoon over and guys to nod their sympathy. After a ten minute hike across campus, he slid into the driver's side of his Crossfire, setting his bag on the passenger seat that not only contained his books from that day's class he shared with his favourite twins, but also several plush animals to give to the boy in the hospital that one of the twins happened to also be friends with. This, thankfully was a lot easier to explain and hide away from curious eyes glancing into his car unlike a few days earlier when Ryou had insisted Saeki bring Ohtori an oversized teddy bear which proudly sat in that same seat with its little beady eyes looking out the window. He didn't know why Ryou wouldn't go to the hospital on his own but figured it was some sort of torturous revenge for something he did over the summer to be sent every time with more cuddly animals.
About a half hour later, Saeki wandered through the halls of the hospital after informing the nurse at the desk who he was and that he was visiting his friend for a little while. He made this same journey a day after Ohtori collapsed thanks to not getting the message the day it happened due to his being out all night with Bane and then being hung over a good portion of the following day, but that day he came to visit saw him walking in on a Brit sleeping soundly and he had no desire to wake the man who had been through too much for his age and left the bear on a nearby chair and a whispered promise of trying to come see him again. Normally, that would have been a breeze but he hadn't missed how protective Yuuta had been when they crossed paths in the hall which left the Aussie believing the Canadian wasn't about to leave that room much in the coming days.
When the proper room was found, Saeki stood just outside the door with a plush in each hand that found themselves peeking around into the room before he joined them with his head slowly peeking in, surprised not to see Yuuta there but guessed he needed a break for food or air himself and gave Ohtori a smile when he saw the man was awake. "Hey, luv," he called from his semi-hidden position to grab Ohtori's attention, "you up for some company right now?"
It had taken a while to get some time alone and actually be awake for it. Ohtori yawned quietly, again putting his palm on his chest to still it as he breathed. Damn, it still hurt. All the same, he scooted slowly up the bedding until he was sitting upright, wishing there were some cute kids to tell stories to, or even just a friendly old lady like there had been in the hospital in America to talk with. Shooting a slightly groggy look out the window, he waited for the nurse in training to come in, run her tests and add some fresh painkillers to his IV stick. That was the only disturbance all afternoon, which meant he could hopefully go home soon.
The Brit looked out the window until he heard a slight shuffling in the halls, assuming it was another vampire seeking blood work, he watched with rising dread. Human pincushion was bad enough, but looking like his arms were hit with baseball bats all week was another story.
Then he saw….furry ears? Okay- he was asking the nurse to ease up on the morphine from now on. But the next head to appear answered his next question, he smiled a little wider and nodded. “Of course, Saeki. You know I always have enough in me for friends to come by.”
Saeki's smile widened when Ohtori acknowledged him and gave him permission to pop in for a bit, which he did by slipping through the door with the plush dolls on display and cuddled close to him as he made his way across the small room to stand by the bed. "Hey, darlin'," he greeted once more and leaned in to give a soft kiss to Ohtori's forehead not wanting to push their start at a friendship once more too far by assuming he could get away with anything more, "these, before you start thinking again that I'm all sweet and cuddly, are from Ryou." He plopped the little tiger on the bed next to the Brit and wiggled the fox one around before it landed on the bed as well. "He's sorry he couldn't get here himself and hope you like the little zoo he's building you with these two fellows and the bear from the other day."
Blushing and ducking down a bit before his stitches reminded him that such movement was dumb, he smiled all the same. Blinking at the two furry creatures, Ohtori looked over at the bear nearby and Jirou’s gift basket and laughed a bit. “I have no idea where I plan to put them all when I finally escape this place.” Coyote would probably want to do away with the other furry things in his home, so he would need to find someplace puppy safe. He knew why Ryou couldn’t make it; Yuuta, and for once he was glad the dark haired boy had stayed away, it was just unnecessary pain for everyone. “It’s okay, I understand. Have I missed anything interesting?”
"Glad someone does." Saeki answered, annoyed that he seemed to be in the dark about something concerning Ryou and knew he would be for quite some time if the imp wanted it that way. Giving his head a shake to rid himself of the annoyance creeping in on him, a chair was located and pulled up to the side of the bed so he could sit and chat with his friend for a little bit before the nurses kicked him out for the end of visiting hours. "Nothing all that interesting really." He didn't think Ohtori would be interested in knowing his old friend and reason he had issues with Bane in high school had returned and he was doing his best not to go to the areas Davide was said to haunt all in order to avoid that discussion of what happened and how things were now he knew was eventually going to come.
“Well- some of it.” He laughed and waved his hand slightly, “no point in getting involved in that mess.” And he hoped this would be his last trip to the hospital, so promoting an anxiety attack or heart attack would not be a good step in that direction. He patted the tiger doll’s head gently and looked at Saeki, knowing there was always some drama but opting to just ignore it. “Well- that’s good news at least.”
He didn't even know what that mess was but figured if Ryou was sending things to Ohtori but refusing to do it himself, then the obvious answer was Yuuta which had Saeki wrinkling his nose as he silently agreed it was best not to know any further details than that little bit he pieced together. A quick subject change was in order and the topic of good news was a good place to start. "How about telling me some good news of your own and that you'll be getting out of here in the next day or two?" To make it seem like he wasn't overly worried, he added with a hint of grin, "I've been told I'm wasting away to nothing and think I'm in need of more of your cheesecake."
”More like a week, maybe 5 days if I get lucky and my stats improve.” He glared dangerously at the heart monitor, telling it to stop varying so much and just settle for the normal bleepbleep. Smiling back, he nodded eagerly. “I think a cheesecake would definitely be in order. I’ll let you know as soon as I’m out of the slammer.”
"You better. I'm getting tired of my housemates and even Takahisa leaving food out for me to eat." He kept the tone of his voice light though it really was starting to get annoying having everyone fretting over him not eating enough and trying to get him to eat. Kajimoto had the best method that took several dinners out of pasta loaded with carbs before Saeki caught on that he had joined in the fight to get him to eat, but in his own defense he hadn't changed what he ate or how much, but the summer held some odd situations that left him not eating much of the local cuisine while in China and then returning home only to lay in bed sick for two weeks. Those sorts of things took time to recover from.
"But think of it this way, you have another week of people waiting on you while you relax." He stressed the word, knowing Ohtori wasn't the sort to sit and do nothing especially when a friend was in need which sent the Brit into worry mode, something he couldn't afford to do right now.
“I’ll make sure to plump you up as soon as possible.” He had thought Saeki looked a bit too thin when he came in, automatically concerning the boy and making him plan out rich recipes to shovel into his friend.
People waiting on him? Ugh- if he wanted that, he would have gone home with his parents and dealt with that nightmare. “I’m tired of relaxing.” He stroked the fox’s soft ears with slow moving fingers while he thought of a way to leave this whole situation with at least some semblance of his dignity. “I have too much to do for that. I want to finish the song for Jirou, I need to catch up on homework, and really pamper Coyote when I get home. He probably hates me for abandoning him.”
"Just don't plump me up too much. I like where I was before the summer hit." He didn't doubt that his mentioning of his weight and asking for cheesecake had sparked the Brit with a talent for delicious sweets to go crazy with baking and bringing things to him on a regular basis, which he didn't mind the idea of too much, but he also didn't want to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe--especially since he had already had to buy new pants a size smaller the past week.
"Puppies are resilient, luv, he'll ignore you for an hour and then love you like you never left." Or so he heard, never having one of his own, but Bane had always had his love of Huskies which had sort of rubbed off on the Aussie who tried to show like children and animals didn't affect him, both things Bane could now exploit in him and damn if he didn't hate that. "As for your schoolwork, you know people will be more than happy to help you catch up and professors willing to give you extended deadlines."
“Yeah- well he is my best friend. So I have to worry, right?” Coyote was just about all he needed, though his prior arrangements with Yuuta took care of one of his other needs very effectively. “And I don’t want to bother other people over my grades. I’ll catch up pretty quickly once I get out.” Another glare at the machines before he drooped and muttered something unfriendly about hospital tomato soup.
"Then you have nothing to worry about." That seemed to be a constant theme with them, Ohtori worrying and Saeki telling him not to worry so much over others, though this time the Brit was worrying over his own grades and his puppy which was a sign he was finally listening to years worth of the same lecture, but it sounded to Saeki that Ohtori had everything sorted out and all he had to do was get the hell out of that hospital and put it all into motion.
Saeki plucked up one of the animals that lay in bed with Ohtori, giving it a poke to its nose and pouted. "I think Ryou's trying to upstage me, luv. Sending you all these animals, and it sounds like he's not done yet either from the way he was talking earlier, while I didn't come with anything this time." He remembered in high school when Ohtori landed himself in the hospital Saeki had dropped everything to rush over there with treats and a white tiger plush to keep him company when he couldn't be there with him. Now, however he didn't know what to bring his friend and felt lousy for the item he did have carefully tucked away in his messenger bag (not a man-purse like Shiraishi insisted) being so simple, especially if the meaning behind it went forgotten. "I thought just seeing my gorgeous self would be enough, but in case it wasn't," the doll was set down as he opened his bag to pull out the single white daisy he had purchased on his way over and held it out to the one it was meant for.
”At this rate I could probably bury them under my sheets and hook one to my monitor and take a walk-about.” A grin as he spied the head nurse coming by again, most likely to scold him for not resting enough or not eating his meals. But honestly, that had to be bad if a British boy from a bland family was complaining about the food. She kept moving, making him grin just a bit more and nod at the door. “The warden.”
”It’s certainly more than enough, Saeki. I appreciate the gesture of coming for a bit.” Even if he was not going to aid any escape attempts or conspiracies. He tilted his head at the slight display the other put on, admiring the strange flair for the dramatic that Saeki had mastered. He reached out to accept the flower before sniffing it and smiling brightly, “my favourite. You remembered after all this time?”
Saeki glanced at the door when Ohtori had, spotting the head nurse and grimacing remembering the third degree she gave him on his way in and how she didn't even attempt a smile when he poured on the accent and charm like he so often did when he wanted something. He knew she'd be by right at the end of visitation to kick him out and stuck his tongue out at the now empty doorway at that thought.
"It's the little details that make moments mean something. I could even tell you when I first gave you a daisy." People liked being remembered and being made to feel special and there was no better way to do that then to find out little details like favourite flowers or foods to surprise them with on occasion like he had done now and their last year at Prince Academy when he planned a picnic dinner there on Ohtori's dorm room floor.
“Really?” Of course he remembered as well, having an ability to remember every kind action and gesture anyone ever did for him and returning them in his own way. He couldn’t help leaning over for a gentle hug. “Thank you.”
Saeki wrapped his arms around Ohtori, careful not to hit any wires and tubes he was hooked up to, not really keen on the idea of being the reason the Brit stayed any longer in that bed. "You're welcome, luv," he whispered before chancing a soft kiss to a pale cheek, "you're definitely worth remembering and spoiling." Their friendship may not have been back to where it once was, but it was getting there and he felt safe in admitting those sorts of things without it meaning anything it wasn't supposed to. Sitting back, he glanced at the clock on the wall and then back at Ohtori. "Still plenty of time for me to hang around if you want me to, unless you have others coming by soon or you want to get some more rest."
Grinning and holding the other closely, even if the hug was rather loose, he enjoyed the warmth and the fact that things might start looking a bit more like normal sooner or later. Of course, when the mention of leaving came up, the hug got just a bit tighter. “Stay. Please- the nurse will be coming again soon enough to prod at me and things, I’d rather not think about it right now.”
There was no way he would go, especially with that hug tightening and the slight plea in the words that asked him to stay. "I'll stay, but only if that bed has room for two," he stated with a wide grin as he untangled himself from Ohtori and hinted at the last time they were in this situation that had Saeki crawling right into the bed with the Brit, though he didn't ask that time and invited himself in.
Stopping to study the dimensions of his bed, he smiled and nodded. “One and a half is more likely, but at least my parents had to go back to Britain so it’s not so bad.” He carefully scooted first to one side, forgetting the IV lines and wires, mumbling and blushing, and then scooting to the other side so Saeki wouldn’t get tangled in. Such a clutz….
Saeki laughed as he stood and shook off his bag that he let slip to the chair he had just been occupying. "Most would say I am half a person and you didn't see both Kenya and me crawl into Kura's bed in Beijing." That was a sight to see and he was certain the nurses who found the three of them sleeping together in that tiny bed had to still be talking about the three crazy foreigners. "But I'm glad your parents aren't around. I don't think I'm up for another round with your father." Ohtori had read his mind to give that reassurance that the parents weren't about to walk in out their sharing a bed and cuddling again like they had before leaving Saeki to go head to head with a ruthless lawyer. But that was all he needed to know and as long as Ohtori didn't move the wrong way again, he wouldn't think his climb into the bed was a bad idea as he made himself as comfortable as one could in a hospital bed being shared.
“Any photos of that?” It was bound to be a fun sight, three full grown men curled in a tiny bed. Nevermind the fact he was accomplishing a lesser, though nearly as amusing feat by letting Saeki join him in bed. “He wasn’t too happy when I refused to return to Britain with him and my mother. I think he may very well have bit your head clean off had he stuck around.” He gently nudged the other and settled somewhat comfortably with a small warning to watch his chest.
"None that I know of, but I have my suspicions about those nurses." Though it probably would have been a sight to see and Saeki was sort of glad that at least no one in Ireland had photos of the experience to tease him with. He nodded at the gesture to be careful and folded his hands nicely in his lap so he didn't accidentally pull anything or injure his friend and again earn him another week there and himself a death sentence ordered by dear papa Ohtori. "I think I'm lucky to have survived the encounter I did, I don't think I want to push my luck for any others, so I'll be on my best behaviour and make a dive for the floor should someone come in." He didn't know how seriously that would happen since any sudden movements had the risk of injuring Ohtori, but the good intentions were there.
“Creepy.” Sighing, he leaned against the other and smiled faintly. “It’s nice to have so many friends around. It really is wonderful to know that someone would have cared had I not made it…sort of sad too.” Cuddling the older boy, he smiled faintly at the interesting lists of flaws his parents had created about the Australian. “Somehow, I don’t think I’d want to be around for that fight either. Especially if certain details escaped.” Such as Saeki being the one he gave his virginity to, that would make his parents blow a gasket and then some. “And no floor diving. We’ll just cover you in stuffed animals.”
"That could quite possibly work," Saeki chuckled as he eyed the various stuffed animals around the room, "you are definitely getting a nice collection of them and like I said, Ryou isn't finished with them either." He had no idea what else the brat had in mind in regards to animals and their size, but he had a feeling he was still going to be playing delivery boy. "At least I can use that as an excuse to swing by again to play pillow for you." He didn't mind the whole cuddling thing anymore and stopped trying to act like he did thanks to having nearly every single friend he had be a damn cuddle whore, a trait that even Saeki was starting to pick up on.
“I’m sure it would.” He rested his cheek on Saeki’s shoulder and yawned quietly. “You should tell him not to worry so much over it. It’s a nice thought but I really don’t know what to do with them.” He shifted slightly, making sure his IV was still safely untangled from the bed siding. “You make a very nice pillow. Can I keep you?”
"I could try, but he won't listen. Besides, I think each one has a meaning behind them." He eyed the fox and tiger, recognizing the meaning behind them immediately as representing both Ryou and himself thanks to the animals they were often linked to and had a feeling his clever fox was going to find an animal to represent each friend Ohtori had that Ryou knew. "You can keep for as long as you need me, luv. Though pillow might be all I'm good for." Saeki didn't want to leave that thought open like that in case it was taken the wrong way and he found himself in an arrangement he wasn't expecting, though he didn't think Ohtori would do something like that.
“Meaning?” He blinked at the animals a moment longer before things started to connect, vaguely he pondered why he was called a kitten again, and Yuuta the wolf. “I see.” What would that make Jirou, or Atobe? “Just a while, then I can let you go back to whatever you need to do. I’d just missed spending time with you.” Which did not in any way, shape or form imply sex.
"You're only keeping me from schoolwork but I think spending time with you currently out ranks the assignments waiting for me." It was still early in the semester and most his business classes were easy and photography wasn't anything to stress over either, even with that Rin brat as his partner for one assignment. "So I can stay here with you until you want me to go, or I'm booted out, which ever comes first. And as your pillow, feel free to nap if you need to. Don't try staying awake because I'm here."
“Don’t let your grades get behind, Sae. You know things can just go wrong, and you’re probably still catching up from your own illness.” He could worry that much, it wasn’t likely to kill him to fret a bit now and then. “And don’t say things like that or I might just doze off on you, and then you’d be trapped and bored. Not a very good reward for a kind visitor, right?”
"By the time classes started I was pretty much recovered, so nothing to worry about there," he knew Ohtori was worrying, and there really wasn't a need for it, especially if the Brit knew how much he went out when he had class the next day and still managed to finish everything and pull in excellent grades. He had a photographic memory which explained his attention to detail and remembering it, and only needed to study most things for a few hours before being prepared for any test. "I offered to play the part of pillow and I never do anything half-heartedly, so you can consider it acceptable to doze off on me and not have either of us feel negative in any way about it."
“Okay-“ He wasn’t going to fight about it. If Saeki said he was recovered, he was well enough. Especially since the silver tongued devil could probably have talked his way into passing grades if he had to. Snuggling up, he nodded and smiled. “Okay then. If you’re sure.” A short nap curled up with yet another ‘Jirou’ in his life was just what the doctor ordered.
