So how many people have realised that Livejournal is now flaky because of the majority backing up their accounts has put a massive strain on the servers/bandwidth ( Read more... )

I would assume they are using the export interface, which only retrieves the text of each entry in a month.

Me too. Also, I have several journals but as I backed them up last month (I think it was last month) when they had that scheduled downtime I can ignore those. I don't think I've posted in any of them since . . . hmm maybe I'd better check.

Which could have been reduced or avoided by LIvejournal making a simple announcement assuring people the service wasnt going away

Gonnae change the title of this post? It comes up on my friends list and is pretty easy to read if someone is walking past my desk, besides that's probably one of the most offensive sweary words ever and as a woman I find it offensive used as a derogotary term in this manner.

and I agree that LJ could just have announced don't panic as to me, anything important enough to want to keep I wouldn't just post on LJ. AND what will people do wioth these archives? I don't know that much but can you use the txt file to post/archive them somewhere else or will they just end up clogging up the hard disk of their PCs?
