Melyna angrily wiped the tears away from her face. She looked up into the darkening night, sitting out alone next to the river and felt more tears roll down her cheeks. As her mind replayed the conversation between her and Asher over and over again, she watched the rising stars and moon and felt insignificant.
“GO AHEAD! SAY IT! YOUR LEAVING!” Melyna’s angry voice rocked through the manor halls.
“I have to.” Asher reached out to touch her arm, and she jerked away and looked away from him. “I... I can’t do this with you anymore. I need to go now. I’ll be back soon. Don’t look for me.”
She felt tears begin to fall down her cheeks and she didn’t want to give in, so she went for something that might hurt him. “You’ll just come back, running.” She felt awful the moment she said it.
Asher picked up his bag and walked over to the door, pausing to look at her for a moment. In that moment of quiet contemplation she knew what she needed to say. “I’ll take you for who you are, if you take me for everything.”
“ We’ll do it all over again. It’s all the same.” Asher said quietly and stepped out the door into the sunset.
Melyna felt her legs slide out from under her, as her most trusted and loved friend and lover walked out of the house. She heard the sound of his scroll and burst into real tears. He was gone. Really, truly gone.
She laid on her back and looked up at the stars and allowed her mind to just relax for a moment. She had cried enough tears.... It was time to figure out how to move forward in life for the moment. Ash was gone, and she was leading their group now. She watched as more stars appeared in the dark night and felt a new resolve take hold in her stomach. As though replacing her broken heart with a new will, she knew no one would ever be able to rock her like that again.
