This is so understated and lovely! The details here are possibly my favorite thing: all of Ben's ideas for what Leslie's goodbye might entail, the way she skips the local and national news channels, his goodbyes with Andy and April, and the way that collection of detail segues into the dreaminess of their goodbye sex... it was really, really great.
I'm so glad to have had the chance to collaborate with you! And I've loved seeing these pieces over the past few weeks, on to their gorgeous final forms. ♥
Thanks so much! And, right back at you - I think it was a really nice way to collaborate. We agreed on the important stuff and then got to surprise each other with the details, which was lovely.
Oh no, I'm having a lot of Washington feels right now! This was a PERFECT "last night before Washington." All of the expectations, or non-expectations and normalcy, that aren't quite right with what they are actually feeling - it's heartbreaking and beautiful.
The job, and Washington, feel like abstractions as he inhales the scent of Leslie’s room, and Leslie, and the night air, and he can’t believe, in his core, that he won’t be here tomorrow, while at the same time he knows he won’t, and, worse, he knows that once he’s on his way, he’ll be excited to be there. And that's really what it's about, right? Ben's sort of guilt(?) that while he is devastated to leave, he is SO excited about this next adventure - and he knows that Leslie is just as excited about it. So, they're both incredibly sad, but also so happy for him. And, I think Leslie has given him the courage (and love/support) to accept that HIS dreams are important too. That HE'S worth it. Ah, this couple!
