Absolute Truths

Do you believe in absolute truth (or truths)?

I was thinking about this yesterday, I was having a debate with something I saw on tv  (yeah, you all do it really!), and it mostly went like this:

TV:  All the religious people [on the chat show] are saying that money doesn't buy happiness [the subject of the debate], and that's great, if that's what you ( Read more... )

In terms of absolute truths, I'm not sure whether they exist or not - I'd argue that they do, but not in any moral sense and nor in any religious textbook (sorry, love, but that's my belief ;) ) - but I do know that to say that one knows the, or even an, absolute truth is in many ways an arrogance; id est, it is asserting that the beliefs of others hold no value, since they are clearly not true - they are not one's own, and are not the absolute truth, and being untrue are worthless. To put one's own opinions on such a pedestal over others is, essentially, arrogant - its a problem I have with the teachings of Christ; humility cannot be married to absolutism in any form, really ( ... )

Actually, I just want to add one more point - to say that there are either absolute truths or there are not is true, but it implies something that is not, ie that all truths are absolute or none are. It is perfectly possible to have an absolute truth that there are no other absolute truths, no?
