Hm. I have to say, given the rich man-heaven/camel-eye of a needle thing, that it seems that money does lie at the root of all evil, if only because the ownership of large amounts of money tends to exert a certain influence on those around one, and therefore changes how one acts, because no man is an island.

I'm not saying that money doesn't have it's problems, nor that people who have money will not be faced with certain temptations to sin in various ways that people without money do not. (The same is true the other ay around though). And I think you're right, if you let it lure you. There is a verse in one of David's Psalms that says "Lord, please make me neither rich nor poor. If I was rich, I might think that I could buy anything I needed, and then I would forget You, but if I was poor I might be tempted to steal and so dishonour the name of my God. So please Lord, make me neither rich, nor poor, but just give me what I need to live with each day," and that was the main thrust of this sermon, and what we ought to be praying for ( ... )
