Please tell me I'm not crazy.

So there's this guy that I've been arguing with. He is extremely anti-gay. Not to the point of violence, but to the point where he wants the entire LGBT community and their supporters to stop or leave the country so that he can raise his traditional Christian family. Oh, and homosexuality is a psychological disorder (on par with pedophilia) that ( Read more... )

He argues that the Founding Fathers were moral, Christian men.

That's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard. Men who raped their slaves are REAL moral.

And I totally feel the same frustration. This is why I think freedom from religion involved in the government should be enforced. Religious beliefs justify prejudice and injustice towards certain citizens.

Your not crazy, i agree competely. Men who OWNED slaves in the first place werent that morel, let along men that raped their slaves. And as far as our founding fathers, they rebelled againist Britain and came to American BECAUSE they were seeking FREEDOM OF RELIGION and thats why there is separtion of church and state. Whatever guy ur talking to, needs to take history lesson on government and then he needs to realize that hes a closed minded asshole that needs to get a life.

If he doesnt like the freedom America stands for, then maybe him and his family should get the hell out the country

Plus, many if not most of them were Deists, and therefore believed in God but not Christ, prayer, miracles, or the Bible. By Bible Belt standards, they weren't Christians at all.

Technically being homosexual can be considered an unnatural condition (physical or psychological) as it goes against the one of the very foundations of life: to reproduce. Thus, you have people who are unwilling to do so naturally. I'm not saying it is the most heart-moving reason behind it, but it is a true fact ( ... )

See, I disagree a little bit on your reproduction argument. Sure, our bits and pieces were created to make babies but I think that, in many ways, humans have evolved beyond instincual reproduction. With world population crowding everyone everywhere you go, there's no need to keep the species thriving. With advances in birth control, the purpose of sex has gone beyond reproduction. And also, you can't say that a person who has become sterile no longer has a purpose or is no longer natural. Plus, of course, I'll throw out the evidence of homosexuality in animal species in the wild, as many do. Perhaps homosexuality isn't so unnatural...

*applauds*

I honestly don't understand this issue. I get that homosexuality makes a lot of people feel icky. So what? Piercings and tattoos make me feel icky, and you don't hear me demanding that people stop getting them.

I get, too, that a lot of people belong to a religion that says it is Evil and Wrong. Again, so what? I see people doing all kinds of things I personally consider wrong, but except in cases where it could pose an actual threat to me or people I care about, like murder or rape, I don't advocate making it illegal.

The most ridiculous is the bizarre notion that the homosexuality of others can somehow make your heterosexual marriage "weaker" or worth less. How does that work?

I'm having the same argument with him. I've friended you btw, because hey, you're cool. Your arguments were a lot more thought out than mine... I get a little ...defensive on the subject. ^_^

Yay, I'm cool and stuff! Heh, thanks. I admittedly wish I were more educated on the topic. But it seems any amount of reason or logic is wasted on him, at least on this issue. *sigh*

Friended back!
