I Need Some Good Vibes...

Okay, tomorrow morning I go in and get two wisdom teeth removed. I know this is a normal procedure, and it is done every day. The problem is that I have quite a fear of dentists, and I mean hyperventilating & near to tears kind of fear, so my anxiety level is already starting to rise. Please send me calming energy. Pretty, pretty please? I'll ( Read more... )

Do you have any anti-anxiety meds? Valium, Xanax, anything like that? Although Im not pro med, it really does wonders to take the edge off. My dentist prescribes that you take 1 before bed and 1 when you awaken. If you have a high tolerance to them (Not me, then also 1 more an hour before you leave for the dentist)

It did WONDERS for calming me. I have a hyper phobia about Dentists.

And I dont think I realized you were a Cancer. THAT could explain things.

I really don't think have anything like that. And honestly, I am already starting to shake. I guess I am just going to have to try to breath through it and distract myself. I know I can do it. I would just prefer to have had something to take the edge off because being scared sucks.

To be honest, with all the mouth work I have had done, I would take getting a wisdom tooth pulled over almost any of them. I dont know if you have had it done before, but it really truly is a cakewalk. Half the time they complete it before you even realize they have started.

I promise. It will be fine.

OMG! I totally want to hug you and cry! How is it that you know exactly how to word the very thing that I need to hear in order to make me feel better?!

I have had two removed before, but only one of those was impacted, so I was pretty okay. This is 10 or so years later though, and I swear my paranoia gets worse every year. Also, both of the teeth are impacted and are on the same side, so I have no idea how it will go this time.

Call them asap, explain how nervous and scared you are, and tell them you'd like nitrous.

Seriously.

When I got my wisdom teeth out when I was seventeen, I did it on 6-8 shots of novocaine and some nitrous.

The nitrous helps you be not-there, so that it doesn't scare you so bad. I had a similar fear of needles, -especially- in my mouth, so you can imagine I was a bit of a wreck. The nitrous helped SO much.

My mom regularly gets nitrous every time she goes to the dentist for even just a cleaning. I can't see why they would refuse you, especially with how freaked out you are.

*hugs*

Even nitrous to get knocked out helps, when you've got phobias. Though as hers isn't needles, it should be easier. :)

Oh, also, for scary medical-y things, I usually take some kind of stone or crystal with me that I can focus on, hopefully smoothish so you can just repeatedy rub it (worry stone). Helped for me.

And bring an MP3 player, loaded with some calming, trancey songs. Between music and nitrous, my wisdom teeth extraction went pretty smoothly.
