Chocolate double layer coffin cake with chocolate frosting and edible black bats. Yum!

It looked much better in my head than the way it actually turned out. It was my first time making a cake like that, and she was thrilled with it, so I suppose I should cut myself a little slack. I just know I can make it look better...next time. :) Leave a comment

Yes they are edible. I made them out of black fondant. :)

Fondant is like a stiff type of frosting. It has almost the consistency of play dough or clay, and you roll it out like dough. You can make your own (I'm sure you could find recipes online), but any place that sells cake decorating stuff should carry it. Depending on what they carry you can buy it already in the color you want, or you can get white and color it yourself (not sure if you can use regular food coloring or if you would have to buy special coloring for fondant).
