My brother was in and out of jail for years and I used to go visit him all the time. Once I took my Grandmother who was about 75 at the time and it was the middle of summer and we had to ride on this rickety bus with no a/c for about 1/2 to the prison from the parking lot. We were the only white people in about 200 others. It was quite a day!

i'm taking "the criminal mind" as a class in school this semester, and it was weird b/c we talked about female offenders today and i learned that in the u.s. there are approximately 1/4 million kids whose moms are in jail. then we talked about the summer camps and stuff like i'm trying to do this summer. i just found it interesting that we talked about that today since i was thinking about this last night...and it made me a little more reassured about my choice (or application at least) for the summer. *don't want to jinx myself* hehe

That sounds like an interesting class! I've worked with kids both afterschool and summer camp and it is definatley a wonderful experience.
