middle school book help

Hey guys,

I'm working on a web site for a middle school library and I'm looking for good classic or current books that are popular with middle school aged kids. I read a lot of teen fic, but I've realized that they are probably more appropriate for high schools, not middle.

Any help, or links to good lists would be much appreciated. :)

I have a grade 5 girl with a rather high reading level who also loves the Hunger Games series. In her list of favourites would be the Gypsy Crown, anything by Cornelia Funke, Kenneth Oppel's Silverwing series and most importantly Artemis Fowl (or just about anything by Eoin Colfler). As for classics, she recently started reading Anne of Green Gables and Trixie Belden and I've got a copy of Cheaper By the Dozen waiting in the wings.

Our son is in grade 7 and he reads anything by Rick Riordan, 39 clues, Kenneth Oppel's Airman series, Alex Rider books and Anthony Horowitz's Raven's Gate series (which is a little creepy at times). He's just starting the Vampire's Assistant.

They both like some Dickens and will read old Nancy Drew/Hardy Boy books when they want something fluffy.

Your fifth grader read Hunger Games? Wow, it's so mean and violent I'm surprised she didn't end up with nightmares, lol. :)

Rick Roirdan seems to be a much repeated name here, I'll have to use some of his. And Nancy Drew too...since I still own them all. :D

I am hearing about the Hunger Games as a good trilogy and very addicting. Nothing but great reading. My sister is a teacher and even she was in awe of the book.

I have a vague recollection of books I used to like in middle school, but it's sort of hazy so these may be too old, too young or just too dated. I loved The Phantom Toll Booth, Anne of Green Gables, Nancy Drew, and the Anastasia Krupnik books.
I also remember reading far too many Sweet Valley High books (which are quite silly once you're over 14) and Lois Duncan books (which creeped me out).
