So my ex husband wants my son to go to college. Great. He takes him to Evergreen for an orientation, helps him fill out the forms, the FAFSA etc. Kid is now accepted to Evergreen. Awesome. 2) Those court-ordered financial splits end when they are 18 (usually)
Nobody can put a price on parenting to the parent who is literally there for every cut, scratch, heartache and tear.
You have $40k in student loans.
Maybe son needs to understand that and decide whether he takes on that same burden. If he's old enough to go to college, he is old enough to understand that it's not fully paid for an how does he plan on making that happen? Because he's an adult now.
Adult decisions.

Also, grants, scholarships, working (federal work-study or otherwise). Most people don't have parents who pay all their tuition.
