“We’re here to see a Detective Rizzoli. They directed us over here.” Frost looked up to see a stern looking man flashing a NCIS badge at him.

He stood up and held out his hand to shake. “I’m Detective Frost, Rizzoli’s partner. I think she’s down in the morgue. I guess you’re here about the dead Marine. Sorry it took so long to get to you, he was living under an assumed identity. “

“We understand.” The older man replied. “I’m Agent Gibbs. This is Agent Dinozzo and Agent David,” he added gesturing to the pair behind him.

“You guvvies travel in packs, huh?” Frost chuckled.

“If we could speak with Detective Rizzoli and see the body…”

“Of course, of course” Frost replied standing up “Just come with me, Rizzoli is probably with Dr. Isles, our ME, so it’ll save you a trip.” The group moved towards the elevators. “This case has been damn strange, if it weren’t for the Doc noticing the scar of a removed tattoo we’d still be chasing out tails. His DNA wasn’t in any of the databases.”

The younger agent replied. “He was special assignment when he left the Marines, his info was likely scrubbed.”

The elevator reached the basement, and the group exited. Agent David spoke “We’d appreciate if we could have a copy of all your work on this case and if you could keep this off the radar. This man was mixed up in some very shady deals, and the government would like to keep it on the down up.”

Before Frost could ask about the last statement, the agent who had been introduced as DiNozzo interrupted. “Down low, Ziva, down low. How long have you been in this country now? God.” The woman shot him a dirty look and the older agent shook his head and ignored the byplay.

As they approached the doors to the morgue, they could hear a lively discussion.

“How hard is it to give me cause of death? Was he shot and then drowned or drowned and then shot, come on Maura you’re the best, just a little hint, anything.”

“That’ll be Rizzoli” Frost quipped and paused just out of eyesight of the doors.

“Flattery will get you nowhere” they heard a cool voice reply “And I’ve told you it takes me more than 5 minutes to determine cause of death. I have to examine the alveoli and look for signs of hemolysis, not as you would prefer me to do, take a wild guess.”

“Mauuura, please, the brass is all over my back because this was like his wife’s second cousin once removed or something.”

“I have a responsibility to not just the people determined to be important by politics. As you can see I’m currently involved in figuring out what killed this poor girl.”

“What can I do to give me COD by 5? How about sexual favors?” The agents looked at Frost with amusement and the detective just shrugged and made to enter the room.

“Right Jane, because I would actually have to perform in some way to receive sex from you, you’re easier to entice than Jo Friday.”

As the agents and Frost walked towards the sound of voices, they heard Jane’s reply. “Did you just compare me to my dog Maura, I’m not sure how I feel about that, I’m thinking no sexual favors for you tonight even if you give me COD right now.” Jane spotted the group entering the area and stopped talking.

Maura was walking towards the locker room, her back to them, as she threw over her shoulder. “As you like to say Jane, whatever.” With that, she exited the room.

Frost was about to burst into laughter as he said “Nice Rizzoli, and once again you show your grasp of professional behavior.”

“Oh fuck off Frost or I’ll make you watch the next autopsy.” The three other people in the room watched the tall, lanky brunette move towards them.

Frost observed the younger man give Jane a once over and saw the lethal looking woman in the group give him a kick and mutter. “Not in your league DiNozzo.”

Jane stopped in front of the group. “Good afternoon. I’m Detective Rizzoli, how can I help you today. Ignore my ass of a partner, I just keep him around to bring me coffee, though since Maura is now bringing me much nicer coffee I’m not so sure about that.” She tapped her chin as if considering the trade-offs.

Well used to his partner’s unique form of friendship Frost retorted, “I don’t think that’s the only thing she’s bringing you Rizzoli, and I’m not willing to provide those services.”

Jane rolled her eyes “I feel the need to repeat myself, fuck off.” She turned to the trio. “Now who are you and what can I do for you this lovely afternoon.”

The feds immediately pulled their badges out, DiNozzo looking as if were about to swallow his tongue. “NCIS, we’re here about…”

“Oh yeah Mr. No name, sure. We haven’t gotten anywhere on the case but the Doc might be able to give you more, but she’s changing, so you might want to take, oh 2 hours, and then come back.” The three looked confused. “It’s just….”

Jane was cut off my Maura’s voice coming from behind her. “Contrary to what you might think Jane, it does not take me 2 hours to get dressed, though I was contemplating changing into the Givenchy, I think it might be better for court, especially paired with Louboutins…” she trailed off, lost in thought.

“Right Maura, as the DA has told you like 6 times, you need to tone it down, you intimidate the jury.”

The two continued to bicker as Gibbs looked over the doctor and had to shake himself, she looked so much like… Dr. Isles turned directly towards him “Hello, Jane says you’re here about Mr. Stanples. Well I can tell you he suffered a wound….” The rest of her speech was lost to Gibbs as he was struck by her appearance. It was if Kate had a twin she’d never mentioned.

It took Ziva longer to react as she observed Gibbs zoning out, something she’d never seen, and Tony stare agape. She finally connected the Doctor’s appearance to the pictures of Kate Todd she’d seen. Taking the lead in light of her companions’ befuddlement, Ziva said, “Yes thank you Dr. Isles, if we could examine the body.”

“I’ll have to get one of my assistants to help you, as I’m due in court. There’s nothing I could tell you that isn’t already in the report, though do feel free to call me if you have any questions. It was nice meeting you; I’ll get someone to come in on my out.” She turned to leave and Jane trotted after her.

Frost glanced at the agents; the two men appeared to be in a state of shock, staring wordlessly after Dr. Isles. “I know the Doc is hot, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a reaction quite like this, and she’s very taken.”

The woman responded, “It’s not that, she just looks a lot like… “She paused for a pregnant second as if trying to find the right words “someone we once knew.”

Frost shook his head, “Whatever, I have work; you alright to wait here until an assistant ME comes in?”

Once again, the female agent replied, “We’ll be fine. Thank you for being so cooperative.”

“No prob, just catch me on your way back up and I’ll get you a copy of the file.” He turned and left the morgue. As he waited for the elevator, he muttered to himself, “What a weird bunch.”

With the swish of the door closing the place was silent. Ziva, used to never-ending commentary by Tony broke the silence “I’m guessing you think she looks a great deal like Agent Todd.”

“It’s uncanny.” Dinozzo replied in a soft tone. “Though Kate would never be a blonde.”
“Brunette Tony, that’s not really blonde.” Gibbs finally spoke.

“Since when do you pay attention to women’s hair colors Boss?”
Gibbs continued ignoring Tony “Let’s focus on the case.”

“But boss, it’s like Kate had a twin, with better fashion sense and a love of women.” The last was said with a waggle of his eyebrows. After a minute, he added in far gentler tone of voice. “I still think about her, and sometimes it just hits me. I miss her.”

Gibbs looked compassionately at his colleague “I know just what you mean.”
