death and dying

As morbid as it sounds, I've wanted to experience a death while at Hospice or on the floor. In the past 24 hours, I've got both. Last night, I was at the hospital and they brought a gentleman from the ICU. He was DNR (do not resc.. rescu... um, no CPR)and had his ventilator discontinued. It might SOUND morbid that you "want" to experience a death on the job...but I think it's necessary because you're going to have to face that a lot (well, maybe not a LOT, but you will have to experience it) as a nurse. But of course that doesn't mean you wish ill will or death upon anyone (I know that's not in your nature). It's good to realize your mortality, especially at such a young age. Too many of us take life for granted and don't realize how quickly it can vanish.

Have fun this weekend with Ricky...and that's frikkin SWEET about spring break. Te quiero!
