you don't need a paid account through LJ to post pics. But you do need a place that will "host" your pics. Try something like photobucket. Then you can just link the photos from photobucket to your LJ posts. Also... try downloading a client for LJ. Semagic (run a username search for that in LJ) is the one I use. It makes posting a thousand times easier.
