Tab had come home alone when Luke had decided he'd wanted to take care of some business. What business it was, Tab had no idea. But given they'd both gotten really excited about the last apartment they'd seen, she wondered if he wasn't about to buy it on the sly.
She dropped her bag on one of the empty spots in the living room and stared around in disbelief. She was about to call out when she spotted baby gear and abruptly shut her mouth again. No way was she going to get in trouble if the baby was asleep.
She tip-toed around the house and finally found both Rileys in the kitchen. She raised her eyebrows expectantly at her brother. "You boys have fun?"
Riley turned around at the voice. "Yeah, next on the list is body shots and Guitar Hero," he said with a smirk, trying to once again get the pacifier into the little Scottish/Irish mouth. No way was this little boy going to grow up gay. He was too interested in sucking on only one thing.
Tab watched, keeping her distance for the moment. The baby didn't exactly scare her any more, and she did have Lachlan's blessing to be near RJ, but she still didn't like interfering. Not when Riley looked so natural with the kid. "I'm sure his dad will be real proud."
"He supplied the booze," Riley joked and went over to check on the bottle. It needed another couple of minutes, yet. "I hope you've got ear plugs. We have a houseguest for the night."
Tab hesitated just a little before she eased RJ into her brother's arms, and watched as the expert took over. She really didn't want RJ to start with the crying, but she was a little sad that he'd lost interest in feeding. She was getting to like it. "Does that mean you'd love them any less? What's a test tube between family."
Tab stuck her tongue out as she shuddered. She hated vomiting. "I don't need details, beanpole. I can't believe he got sick off Thai food! I've eaten Thai for nearly half our lifetime."
Baby Campbell's little torso fit in one of Riley's hands. He held the baby carefully and started to try and burp him again, softly rubbing his back and leaning over a little to make sure he was okay. He dropped a tiny kiss to the baby's head and then looked at Tab again with a sigh. "IVF is a fucked up process. I'm not saying I'm opposed to it, it's just draining. Evie will need injections and all sorts of shit in the lead up to it. Then it's not guaranteed to work. Plus, we'd have two sides to the coin in the process. The sperm washing then the IVF, at thousands of dollars per time. I don't know what to do," he admitted.
"They both got sick," he corrected. "See, if it was just Lachlan, you would have debating power because he has gut problems in general after the shooting. But both eating a range of dishes, Thai isn't looking too good."
Tab stared at Riley, a little shocked at what the process would entail. She closed her mouth with a soft snap and leaned forward to rest her elbow against the tab as she put her head in her hand. "Are you fucking serious? All that and you still might not wind up with a kid? Fuck, Big Bro. That's just... that's seriously fucked up."
Her eyes narrowed. "Can't pregnancy fuck up eating?" It was a low blow, sure, but she was determined to defend Thai food. "Besides, it is just one restaurant. They've eaten Thai before, right?"
Riley was cleaning up yet another fountain of baby puke, but the little boy seemed content with the results, his eyes already closing. Riley watched him quietly, his forehead creased slightly. "It's gotta be worth it," he murmured, rubbing the baby's little belly. "Tara and Lachlan probably would have done it a thousand times just to get one of him."
"She's not pregnant," he pointed out rationally. "She hasn't been pregnant for nearly eight weeks. And I would say so. Doubt they will again, though," he added with a smirk.
