Iz and Ali isabelowens August 29 2009, 10:12:43 UTC
Isabel felt strange being at a birthday party after everything that had happened over the past week, but it was Andrew's and Ali would expect her to be here. She also wanted James here, and Iz would be lying if she didn't admit it was hard not to be with James the whole time. She looked at him, and she just wanted to be in his arms. She still had no idea what he was thinking though, James keeping to himself since he left Aiden and Pat's house. At work their interactions had been minimal and polite, and strictly professional.

Even if Izzy wanted to drag him into the copy room and make it very unprofessional. He would always have that effect on her, she was sure of it.

She came up beside Ali at the bar, and gave her friend a kiss on the cheek as she took over the back rub. At least she was beginning to know how Ali felt. "This was some pretty devious planning on your part, Sullivan. Surprise party for your fiance. How'd you pull it off?"

Ali shot Izzy a look, but she did smile. "Yeah, I could have used a hand, you bitch," she returned with a snort. "Don't think I don't you were playing sink the sausage in Princeton together. I had to rely on Luke and Tab to help me out, and make them lie to Andrew too. He thought I forgot his birthday and sulked all Thursday night when all I wanted to do was fuck his brains out, but I couldn't because he thought I was too buggered to even go to dinner with him for his birthday."

He sipped her juice and then looked at Izzy with a small frown. "You really did, didn't you? You fucked Jimbo."

"I'm sorry," was all Izzy could manage for a long moment. As Ali continued to look at her, she shifted her weight and started to feel just the tiniest bit of guilt over what had happened. "He's James." It was said like it could explain everything. "And I'm sure Andrew's forgiven you by now."

Ali rested her elbow on the bar, her hand coming to sit on her hand. "He's just as fucked up as the rest of us, if not more. How did you think this was going to fix things?" She looked over at James, who was sitting in one of the booths with Lachlan. She didn't even realise he knew Lachlan, but the six degrees of separation they had going in their group, it didn't surprise her all that much. Her shoulders slumped a little and she sighed. "Why couldn't you both just leave it be? What about Cameron? Harri?"

Riley & Tab pullmysteth August 29 2009, 10:13:21 UTC
Riley was a doctor, and as an Emergency Physician, he had dealt a lot with pregnant woman over the time, even delivered a couple of babies who weren't going to wait to see the delivery suite. But when it came to his own flesh and blood or family, he was awed. He found himself sitting at the bar looking at Evie, who was four months pregnant and looking closer to seven months with twins in there, and then at Ali, who was only a month behind and barely sporting a tiny bump. It was just intriguing for him. Plus, he thought it was sweet how Andrew, whenever he approached Ali, kissed her cheek and his hands automatically went to her belly. Riley wondered if he did the same. If he did, it must have become such second nature that he didn't even realise. The thing was, it was getting harder to get his arms around Evie now, not that he would tell her that. He loved it. He even loved pregnant sex. Maybe he really was just kinky at heart. It was just something to be said knowing that bump was something he helped make ( ... )

Tab was off the stage again, and ducked behind the bar to get herself a bottle of water before she made her way to her brother's side. She caught the look on his face before he'd dragged it away, and bumped against him as she grinned. "I don't think you have to be shy when it's your own wife you're perving on."

Tab then saw Luke and Andrew gazing at Leila's soldier, and smirked. "He's pretty cute, huh? I hope they don't mess up his face when they start tearing into him."

"I wasn't perving!" Riley protested hastily and gave Tab a nudge in the side. "I was comparing. Evie is only four weeks further along than Ali. I'm being a stupid male and trying to wrap my head around it."

He looked back to the two Aussies looking much like they were building a tactical plan of action that would probably put the soldier's skills to shame. "He is, I'll give her that much. She has good taste. The guy has this Southern charm thing going. He called Josh 'sir, and Josh nearly fell off his bar stool," he sniggered. "I so couldn't be military."

Tab's eyebrows went up as she looked from Evie to Ali, and back to Riley while taking a sip of her water. "I'm a smart female and still can't get my head around it. I say embrace her big belly, and love it."

"I knew I was doing the right thing sending him in the direction of the Bondi. Not that I was setting him up, but the place has hooking up vibes. Look at Pat, and Aiden, and me and Luke." Tab arched an eyebrow at her husband as he stopped conspiring for a moment to find her across the bar. He just smirked, and got back into his plotting. "He what? Seriously? No wonder Josh is still looking funny." Tab looked at her brother. "Why not?"

Rob had managed to gradually pull away from the crowd and hover at the end of the bar for a few minutes. It wasn't that he didn't like Leila's family and friends, it was just overwhemling trying to remember all the names and faces. Plus, there were so many wonderful people here that he almost felt out of his depth. He found himself initially trying to just remain polite and not make any bad impressions, only he was sure he nearly gave one of the dudes a heart attack for calling him 'sir'. It was automatic, and just a habit from the Army. But he was starting to loosen up now, and he was having a great time. If one this was certain. this group knew how to throw a party and the band was fucking amazing. The Scot and the redhead just had it down ( ... )

Despite suspicions, Luke and Andrew hadn't actually been plotting the soldier's demise. They had been trying to nervously figure out which of them should approach him first, figuring if they both went at the same time, they would freak the poor guy out. Of course, they had been observing him, and observing him with Leila. Like Andrew had suspected, the guy seemed nice, and it must have been a big thing for him to rock up to the party soon after he began dating Leila and face the family onslaught.

Andrew was happy to offer the Jackson/Connor olive branch to the guy. It was his birthday and he should be mingling anyway. With Ali safely with Izzy at the bar, Andrew made his way over to Rob, who did look slightly overwhelmed. He smiled and gestured to the bar. "Can I buy you a drink, mate?" he offered.

Rob had been watching the crowd and didn't realise he had company until Andrew spoke. He turned to him with a laugh, trying not to let the nerves engulf him at talking to one of Leila's cousins. "It's your birthday, man. I should be buying you a drink," he pointed out with a laugh. They had been briefly introduced earlier by Leila, but there hadn't been any lingering conversation beyond the initial intros. "Can I buy you one?" he offered.

Andrew shook his head and sat down on the closest stool. "No, I don't drink, mate. I seem to have a constant stream of Diet Coke when I need it, though. Cheers for the offer, though. Are you enjoying yourself? I know this bunch can be quite colourful. I haven't been one of the group for all that long myself, but I wouldn't swap them for anything now."

Andrew actually thought there was enough food and enough birthday presents to cater to at least a small town. He was stunned at how many of his friends and family Ali managed to pack into The Bondi for his surprise party. And he was still reeling from the surprise. He hadn't suspected at all. He had agreed to have dinner with Leila and Rob, but Leila had texted him at the last minute and said she couldn't get a table to the restaurant until a little later, and they were going to get a drink at Luke's bar beforehand. Andrew was heading straight from work to meet them to save a bit of time, so the plans had been worked out perfectly. He never went home to see Ali wasn't actually there in her jammies with the remote like she said she was. She was already here at the bar looking absolutely stunning ready to surprise him for his birthday. The whole thing had just been brilliant ( ... )

Ali seized the moment of freedom her fiance had and came up behind him, wrapping her arms around him to drag him onto the dancefloor. Lachlan was just stepping up to the microphone again and leading into the a modern, hipper version of 'Do You Love Me' by The Contours. Ali had requested it earlier, asking him if he could sing it. He hadn't even hesitated, and told her it was always fun to sing. She turned Andrew in her arms and was already starting to swivel her hips enthusiastically to the music. "Dance with me, sexy," she said with a bright grin. This was going to be a test. Andrew did dance, but she wasn't going to let him off with the slow huggy sway thing this time. She wanted to really dance and this was one of her favourite songs from one of her favourite movies. She wanted to know if Andrew had even a hint of the dirty dancing in him ( ... )

Andrew was taken by surprise at first when he found himself tugged onto the dance floor by Ali. He laughed as he watched her, listening to Lachlan begin the song. Then her hands were on his hips and she was rocking against him to the music and the penny dropped. He glanced around, noticing some people were watching them. It had been the first time they had come on the dancefloor for anything more than a slow song, and his family and friends knew he was a pretty shy bloke...

Mostly.

He matched her mischievous grin and then after a couple of beats in the song, matched her movements, catching her in his arms and falling right into the suggestive dance moves with her. He wasn't that shy. He still had a few aces up his sleeve when the time was right. He did know how to dance, it just wasn't a widely known fact. His hips met hers in their movements and someone whistled off to their left, but two could play this game and he had only eyes for Ali. He smirked at her right before he pulled her into a heated kiss, not missing a beat in their

Ali was stunned, and more than a little hot and horny. She was mush in his arms and the kiss before she knew what was happening and when it broke, she laughed, dropping her head back and broke apart from him just long enough twist around in a circle before she was back in his arms again. "Ohhh, ba-by, you got the moves," she purred, still laughing. "Will you marry me? My fiance might not like it, but I'm going to come in my pants from this hip action!"

Izzy had left the bar after Ali disappeared to the toilet, hovering near the table James was sharing with Lachlan. Their conversation seemed to wrap up, and James left the Scotsman. Iz seized her opportunity, heart lodged somewhere in her throat. If Ali thought there was going to be any trouble starting with a clean slate, Izzy didn't feel it.

Right now she felt like she really was starting all over again, suddenly having no idea how to talk to James. She came up beside him, the urge to take his hand incredibly strong. She didn't though, wrapping her arms around herself instead. "Hey, loser."

At least it was a start.

James' own hands got shoved unceremoniously into the pockets of his jeans. He was still more on the hungover side than not after his bender with Mark. He could only remember patches of their conversation, but he knew he spilled his guts to his big brother, and could vaguely remember sobbing in Mark's arms at one point about how much he fucked everything up. Of course, he had no clue which fuck up he was referring to because, by now, he had quite the quota of them. He hadn't purposefully been avoiding Izzy, he had just been starkly aware how many people in this room were connected to Cameron, and he felt guilty even being here in a celebratory environment. Still, it was for Ali, and they owed it to her to be here. She put a lot of work into arranging it, and it was Andrew's first birthday they were celebrating as a couple. Ali was going to be marrying this guy, and if James didn't want to lose her as his best friend, he owed her well more than just showing up ( ... )

"Yeah, it is," Izzy agreed as she tucked some of her hair behind her ear. She nodded towards the back exit. "Fancy getting a bit of air." She was also very much aware of connections to Cameron, and Harri. Even if all she was aiming to do was talk, she wasn't sure she could do it in front of everyone else.

James nodded. "Yeah, okay. I was just going to see if Ali needed anything, but some fresh air would be good," he agreed, already turning to head for the back door to the courtyard. Dancing was off the menu anyway. If he tried, he'd probably want to puke all over everyone. Probably not the look Ali was going for when she considered decor.
