[FOR EVERYONE] Pat & Cam's 30th Birthday

Dec 12, 2009 02:11

After speaking with Aiden, Andrew had discovered that Pat and Cameron's 30th birthday was on the weekend, and whilst Aiden wanted to do something special for them, he had no idea what. Already set in motion, the twins' family were on their way over from England and Mr and Mrs Brennan were keeping them under wraps. Also on their way were ten of ( Read more... )

Lachlan was standing up near the stage with RJ nursed on his hip, bouncing him up and down lightly his son's little hand played with the pendant around his neck. One thing they had learned early on was that Riley had absolutely no issue with loud noise. In fact, he was more content when it was noisey and they had to often play music to him to get him to settle for sleep. Crowds didn't bother him, either, so long as he had familiar people within reach. Lachlan had been the one to arrange Pat's surprise party two years earlier, but this time around he was relieved to be able to stay on the sidelines. He would never have missed Pat and Cameron's 30th, but he was still exhausted. Tara was awake, so it was a small weight off his mind, but he had to get through the anniversary of his shooting before his mind would probably let him switch off. Tara had told him to take RJ to the party that night, and send Pat and Cameron her love. And even though the band was going to be performing a couple of sets later on, Lachlan didn't want to take part ( ... )

Riley edged his way through the large crowd, not at all surprised how many bodies were squished into the bar. Pat had countless friends in Princeton, plus the overseas posse just made for one extremely successful party. But once the excitement of Aiden showing up with the twins had died down, Riley spotted Lachlan hovering safely away from most of the chaos with RJ. He actually didn't look too well, but Riley knew Lachlan was drained and exhausted. This party couldn't be easy for him, but he was here. That was huge.

He approached his best mate and held out a bottle of light beer for him. "You look like you need this," he said with a sympathetic smile. "Do you want me to take him for a wee while. Or maybe get you a pillow?" he joked.

Lachlan was more than happy to hand RJ over to his namesake godfather for a few minutes and accept the light beer in return. "I am knackered," he relented, watching RJ's face light up in a smile when he realised who had him now. He rubbed his free hand over his face slowly and then took a long drink of the beer. "I'm nay sleeping so well. When I manage to pass out from exhaustion, it can only be for a wee while. We still need to check the bairn's levels every three hours, then when I wake him up in the middle of the night, he seems to think it's time to play and it takes me ages to settle him again. Mum and Dad tried to check his blood the first couple of nights they were here so I could get some sleep, but he didnae cope so well and just screamed the place down and if there is one sound you will never, ever sleep through, it's your bairn's cry."

Riley nodded slowly. "Sure, Tara mentioned to me when I dropped in on her that you were so tired you were falling asleep sitting with her. She's worried about you, mate. Really worried. You need to start calling in back-up, using your friends. What are giving your bairn godparents for, huh? I'm a doctor, Pat and Evie are nurses. We could help out with him, you know. I know it's easier said than done because you're guilty about not being there when he got ill, but mate... you're going to end up road kill if you don't rest."

Aiden would have said he owed Andrew a drink, but for obvious reasons that was inaccurate. In fact, he owed him so much more. Aiden, of course, had known it was going to be Pat and Cameron's 30th birthday. He also knew both brothers had told him they didn't want a fuss because of everything that had gone down. Aiden promised he wouldn't make a fuss, which is exactly why he owed Andrew bucketloads of thanks. Aiden had been able to keep his promise, and the twins still got the birthday surprise they deserved.

He watched Cameron light up and laugh for the first time maybe since he met him as he was engulfed by his team mates in what looked like a huge group hug as they sung their team song. It was perfect, and the words really were fitting for that moment. Aiden would be lying, however, if he didn't think that side of the plan would work in a different way. He was hoping his team mates could convince him that staying in America to get the risky surgery on his knee was the best option. It might put him out of the game for another year, ( ... )

Pat gave Aiden a smirk and then kissed him again, making sure it lingered this time. "I'm enjoying myself now, darling," he assured him when the kiss eased off and he brushed his hands up and down Aiden's torso. "I hear you kept your promise in the most devious way possible. Palming the work off to someone else so you come out squeaky clean. I'm highly impressed. I was planning on an early night tonight, you know. Early night..." he repeated with emphasis, looking pointedly at his husband.

The truth was, James had been excited about having a night out. There was no way they could have missed Pat's 30th considering he was Aiden's husband and Campbell's godfather. The Cameron fact was... awkward. It might always be, it was hard to tell. The tension didn't seem to be as thick, though, since Izzy had spoken to him, so that was something. Getting Andrew's email, it wasn't difficult to see that tonight was a night that differences needed to be set aside. Pat and Cameron really had been through a load of shit, they deserved and awesome thirtieth.

With his new baby son nursed securely in his arms amongst a mound of aqua fluffy baby blankets, sleeping on despite the noise, James eased himself down beside Izzy into the booth she was occupying and shot her a smile. "I figured you and I could probably use some more time to talk, sans being locked in a room by Ali's not-so-innocent husband."

Izzy's eyes had kept finding their way back to Cameron, even when the posse of footballers enveloped him. There was a burning need to try and get him on his own, but she didn't want to spoil his night. Or Pat's. She was here in a strictly not-quite-family-but-possibly-friend way, knowing she was probably going to risk both Andrew's and Ali's wrath if she didn't.

Besides, no matter what, she did care about the twins. She wanted to be here to help celebrate. It was strange to think she was slightly older than them both. It didn't make her any the wiser though.

She turned her head when James sat down, and gave him a smile before reaching over to touch Campbell's cheek softly and dropping a kiss on the baby's forehead. Then she kissed James' cheek, and laughed. "It's always the quiet ones. He had to have a devious side somewhere considering Ali's his wife. Should I be drinking straight Coke instead of Diet for this talk?"

James looked down at his son with a smile, softly patting the underside of the fluffy bundle. He was more comfortable with this than he could have ever anticipated and on a daily basis he was remembering Ali's wise words about parenthood that he could never have understood until it happened. Of course, Campbell was a handful. He cried, a lot, and his sleep patterns were probably the weirdest any kid could imagine. But it wasn't like they ever expected an offspring of theirs to be anything but a handful.

He glanced at her drink and shook his head. "Nope, if I have to stick to Diet, so do you. I just though... after the whole Hollywood kidnap scene at the hospital we should talk. I don't think we talk as much anymore as we should," he told her with another small smile. He looked over at the sea of red and than glanced back at her. "He'll be freed up sooner or later. Surprised parties can hit you like a tonne of bricks."

Iz watched her best friend with his son, a soft smile on her lips. She was glad it had happened to James, even if she knew he had been shitting himself for months. But he was a natural, and she had no doubt the kid would be loved more than anything.

She smirked as she raised an eyebrow. "It really was something, huh? And I know... I just... I think I've been trying to give everyone their space, but it's backfired. Ali thinks I don't want her in my life, you think we don't talk... Cameron thinks that I took away his chance at bonding with his babies. Which I did. I fucked him over so bad. I don't even know where to start. I'm just glad I did get to talk to him a little bit. Even if he hates me. I just didn't want to get in the middle of you and Harri again, and Al was on her honeymoon."

Rob was actually mused that he wasn't the only one in the room on crutches. Made him feel like less off a dork to be sharing something in common with one of the birthday boys. This was the second one of these family gatherings he had been to and he still felt a little awkward. Not as much, though. He knew more people in the room now, but not as well as he probably should. Being blown up and immobilised really didn't make for good socialising. But it felt good to get out and be amongst people, and Leila was laughing and smiling with her family. That made the whole thing worth it ( ... )

Rachel adjusted her scarf as she made her way through the crowd. She was still wondering how she'd managed to score an invite but she wasn't about to complain. This group really knew how to throw a party. She had a feeling her presence was to do with knowing Andrew, and she was glad her sponsor/sponsee could slip her in.

She made a mental note to try and catch a word with him later, but for now she had someone else she needed to talk to. She slid into the other side of Rob's booth and smiled. "I was going to bring you a plate until I realised Leila had more than taken care of it. Brought you another Diet Coke instead so you wouldn't have to move."

Rob caught a ham and tomato sandwich this time before it escaped off the plate and placed it right on top of the pyramid of food. He was nearly thirty years old himself and he was playing with his food. He was already imagining the smack in the back of the head he would have gotten from his Mom if she was here, and the thought instantly amused him.

He shot Rachel a smile. "I think she's taken care of that for about a month. I'm going to need a doggy bag. Luke's brother-in-law also came and offered me food. We were bonding over shared missing body parts, even if he was being evasive. Thanks for the drink, I appreciate it," he told her, reaching for it. "Are you having a good time?"

Rachel laughed. "Now I really am glad I got you the drink. You're going to be needing it to wash all that down. Leila's really good at the taking care of you thing, isn't she? She just seems to know what to do." Rachel blinked, looking around for someone that would look like Rob's brother-in-law's brother in law. "What's he missing? And yeah, I'm having a good time. This is a really nice bunch of people."

George had welcomed an excuse to get out and have fun. She'd even welcomed a chance to wear a pink dress. One which she was now adjusting as she re-entered the bar through a side door after ducking outside with Matt for a quickie. Asking him out on a date was still on her mind, just enjoying some really great alley sex had come first.

She glanced around as she looked for Pat, checking to make sure her boss was still having a good time. He needed it, in fact, from what she'd heard so did his brother.

And if Matt hadn't been there, and if he wasn't one of the top most things on her mind, she would definitely have been trying to take advantage of the important football talent. Those guys had magnificent butts, that was for sure.

She went to get a drink, choosing a suitably fruity cocktail in Pat's honour.

Riley came up to her at the bar with a devious smirk. He was already nursing a beer, so it was obvious he wasn't there for the refreshments. He suddenly found himself without an armful of his godson when Evie came over to steal her turn with his godson. RJ had squealed in excitement. He had seemed to take a liking to Evie's pregnant belly because he could climb up on top of it and get more height, but once he was there, he just looped his arms around Evie's neck and clung there in a long snuggle. It gave Riley a bolt of excitement about seeing Evie with their babies when they were born.

"I know what you were doing," he commented lightly, leaning back against the bar. "Or should I say who you were doing."

The huge smile on George's face made it impossible for her to deny anything, and she raised her glass to her lips to take a sip as she looked at Riley. "I'm sure I have no idea who you're talking about. Sure that's just light beer you're drinking?"

Riley held up his beer to show her label. "Fuck light. I was only giving light to Lachlan because I figured if he went full strength, he'd face plant the lino. Even then, he took two mouthfuls and went back to water. Do you realise how many of us in this room have fucked in that alley? No doubt our future offspring will indulge in the same pleasures."
