but chris and I have this great idea about every available empty public space{medians,the lawns around govt buildings,shoulders of roads} being planted with food

You DO expect a huge war where a bunch of people die first, don't you? I mean, you're trying to take power away from people and put it in the hands of the masses. It won't go over well at first. That's the thing about common sense. If it's common, then there are going to be a few people who will know MORE than that, so they can get around it and be selfish. Personally, I think the path to socialism will be far more subtle, with the government passing bills that can be seen as socialist one at a time. We'll still have to get rid of most addictive recreational drugs. Dependents will be less able to benefit SOCIETY, which is a big part of socialism. I've thought about these things for a long time, too.
