Colin ran from the library, trying to get away from the students that had seen Harry blow up at him.  He didn't want to cry.  Gryffindors weren't supposed to cry.  Especially sixteen year old Gryffindors but the tears kept flowing over as he ran down the hallway.  His feet led him away from the Gryffindor Common room and instead down some random ( Read more... )

Etienne hummed softly to himself as he made his way down the hall. The year was off to a good start, a much better start than the previous one. He pulled the necklace Sarah had given him out of his shirt. Smiling, he held it so the light made the rainbow appear. A much better place, Hogwarts. He tucked it back into his shirt and continued walking.

As he rounded the corner, he heard something that sounded like...crying. Someone was crying. He frowned, walking faster toward the sound. When he saw who it was, he froze in his tracks.

"...Colin?" The boy was usually so happy, and it hurt Etienne to see him like this. He knelt down beside Colin and wrapped an arm around his shoulders.

"Colin? What has happened? What is wrong?" he asked softly.

Colin looked up startled.

"Oh, Etienne," he said, wiping at his face. He didn't want anyone to see him cry, especially his new found friend. Etienne wrapped an arm around him and Colin felt himself melt into it's warmth, laying his head against his shoulder.

Etienne's voice was so soft and soothing that Colin felt the tears well up again. He felt so stupid to get this upset, but it had hurt.

"Harry hates me," he said biting his lip. "I...just wanted to help but he hates me. How can he hate me when I lo-"

Colin caught himself before he said something he wasn't ready to say yet. He looked up at Etienne and felt more tears slide down his cheek. "I'm sorry, you must think I'm so stupid."

Etienne gently leaned his head against the other boy's. "You are not stupid, Colin. I would never think you, or anyone else, were stupid for crying." He gave Colin's shoulders a squeeze and stroked his hair with his free hand.

His heart ached for the boy. "Sometimes people...do not realize that they need help, and they do not want it. Even so, I cannot excuse him for hurting you." He sighed and held Colin closer, rocking him slightly. "I can only be thankful that he did not hit you..."

"What?" Colin sniffled through his tears. "Harry would never hit me..."

Colin let out a slow sigh as Etienne stroked his hair. It didn't really matter if Harry had hit him, he doubted it would have hurt any less.

"I just," Colin sighed. "I just wish I knew what I did wrong. I always try to hard. Harry's just so...Harry. He's a hero, you know? And he hasn't had the easiest life. I really care about him, not like those who are only backing him if everyone else does. He's never let me... He'll never let me in. I'm never going to be like Ron or Hermione or even Ginny. He doesn't like me at all. It hurts."
