I love the Remote feature on my iPod. Granted, I am listening to music through my computer right now, but too lazy to use the trackpad, I just reach over and click through the library via iPod. It's useful for the same function when separated by more than five inches, as well. Yay wireless, yay music, yay computers that work and are always ( Read more... )

Yes...knowing how to make a website. Clearly something that anyone with an informations science background should know how to do.

I'm just gonna duck out this door right here...

Are you saying you don't know how or being sarcastic? I can't tell if you think it's a useful, though obviously non-standard, part of my curriculum.

I hate it when I set my irony meters on stun. I was pretty much referring to the fact that I learned how to make a website in college, then promptly forgot most of the skills required to do so after a lack of use. It actually isn't a skill that's deemed particularly necessary for the archives track of an MLIS, so at this point, I'm pretty damned rusty to the point of not knowing how.

Outside of something bloglike like LJ or such, of course, which...doesn't really count.

Well, I haven't looked at Simmons' curriculum, so though I know your focus was Archives, I don't know how many courses you took to specialize or whatnot.

At Maryland, "Archives, Records, and Information Management" is a specialization within the MLS or the HiLS (the Joint History/LBSC degree, MA in History -- I don't know why MA not MS, especially as they keep emphasizing the "science" of our study).

Anyways, IT is a core course, so of the five required cores, only one is different for Archives students. Who usually take the other non-Archive core for broader Library Science experience. And I hope to take the Archive core next semester to see if it's my track of choice after all.

And of course, NARA does have their shiny new Digital Vaults site. I doubt it was anyone in my 690 class who put it together, but give me time. :)

I guess what I'm saying is I'm not dissing you for not remembering web assembly. I just can't tell if you think this class is a waste of our time?
