As usual, I'm late to the party...

I have finally discovered the tv show Supernatural. After watching all four seasons in the last month and a half, I have come to the conclusion that it totally kicks ass.

Cut for Pris gushing about her new favorite tv show and how it's better than Buffy the Vampire Slayer. )

Never heard much about the show. Like you, I kind of dismissed what I did here mostly because I wasn't interested in starting a new show. But you never know, this sounds like it might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the tip.

Awesome. The new season starts out on September 10th on the CW (or if you're like me, and you don't have cable, it starts whenever the nerds on the internet download it from a bittorrent file).

The plot builds on what happened in previous seasons though, so you might want to catch up first before watching the new season. It's not so complicated that you couldn't get what was going on by jumping in the middle. It's just that you'd probably be spoiled about some of the cool plot twists.

I'm trying hard not to break down and watch it again myself, lol. Luckily I've just discovered Dexter, which should keep me entertained until September 10th.

I discovered this show by accident around 5 months ago while channelsurfing at 1am. Turns out one of the local networks here had picked up Season 1, so since I ended up camping at my parents' place for the summer on account of a burst water pipe in my apartment, I made good use of their TiVo. Of course they didn't pick up season 2, so I started poking around the internet for season 2.

I like the show for much of the same reasons as you stated, it's a show about people, before it's about the various fantasy creatures, which is the same reason I got so utterly hooked by Battlestar Galactica.

The network that Supernatural airs on here really hasn't done the show any favors. It seems like they barely promote it, and they put it in the same time slot against Goliath shows like Lost and Heroes (both of which are totally inferior). I'm totally shocked that it hasn't been canceled yet although it's ratings, when you take into consideration the smallish network it runs on, are pretty decent actually, which is why they're talking about possibly doing a sixth season.

And I'll commit even more nerd blasphemy and say that I like Supernatural better because they've maintained the quality of their show far better than BSG did in it's fourth season (which totally imploded). It seems that most shows start out with a bang and by season four start drifting and losing focus. It's kind of amazing how this show gets ( ... )

I was really surprised to see it was still running when I looked it up on IMDB. Don't get me wrong, I liked the show but it just seemed like a total longshot that a studio would keep it running, given that a fair bunch of viewers don't know good TV from a doormat *ahem* 'scuse me.

As for BSG, I liked Season 4, but obviously they were tied down by the fact that they *had* to wrap everything up, which did dictate how the story went. But there were really great stories, still - the mutiny arc blew my mind. So you won't be getting hit with any Holy Handgrenades on my account ;P
