FF XIII was one of the most disapointing games ever for me. Since you already got RDR I don't need to mention it. I guess on the xbox there's also Fable 2 and 3.
I've only played a few hours in to RDR and already I like it a lot, even though I keep riding my horse in circles and am a terrible shot.
I'm totally curious about WTF happened to the FF franchise. I mean, damn. We're about ten hours into playing that damn thing and all we've done is listen to poorly written emo conversations and run along paths. Not that I expect a FF game to be non linear or scripted, but the last one I played, FFX I think, still let you go to a world map and go to towns and ride the giant chickens and stuff. It's like they took all of the fun and imagination out of the freaking series and left only tedious combat instead.
I'm not sure if Fable is really my thing. I didn't enjoy the first one very much and never finished it, so I'm thinking that I'm not going to like the sequels if it's more of the same.
I always game on a console. I have a big screen tv and I like playing games on a couch. Also I have a Mac so...
Let's see, there's the Fable series, the Halo series, and I'm a big fan of Braid, which is an Arcade download. I also use the Xbox constantly for Netflix but you need Gold for that, I think.
I'm not sure why I prefer the PC - it's probably just habit. Back when I started playing, all of the games I wanted to play were PC only, and there was nothing on the consoles that could compare. The consoles have definitely caught up though.
I've heard good things about braid and am curious to see if I'd like something like Halo. I didn't enjoy the first Fable though, so I'm thinking I'm probably not going to like the sequels if they're more of the same. But we will definitely be doing the Netflix thing, I think, because that sounds really awesomely convenient.
I'm not a big shooter person but Halo is one of the best. It has a pretty good story too, and I really like the soundtrack. But if you didn't like the first Fable you won't like the others.
I would love to game on a PC, especially for DAO and Elder Scrolls or other games that have mods. Plus, screen captures. I desire screen captures! But DH and I do film, so we need Final Cut Pro, and so it's Mac forever, sadly.
We played it last night, and I'm afraid that the West is totally screwed if we're supposed to be the heroes. I can't seem to master the skill of riding a horse like I'm not drunk and Tom can't hit the broad side of a barn, lol. It's pretty hilarious.
Party games may be the best use for consoles. Although not owning one, I have no recommendations...
Red Dead is supposed to be good. Sounds like a fun New Years to me! It looks like I'm going out. Hmmm...nothing like a hang over to bring in the New Year. ;)
Heh, I actually had it last week (I spent Christmas eve puking my guts out) although everyone else has been slowly catching it so it's been like a series of people getting sick. *facepalm*
Tom had to work today and Ivy gets up damn early so no hangovers for us, lol.
That's probably a good thing. I think I got sick, so ended up not going out after all and am now hanging around feeling like I'm hung over despite only having a glass of wine. Ugh. Oh well...
There is also Civilization Revolution, which is a nuts and bolts version of Civ for the console, but really really fun to play, and nice when you don't want to get into all the intricacies of regular Civ.

If you're willing to shell out for the extra equipment, there's always the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games.
