Usenet?

Bluntly: is Usenet still useful for anything? I've been playing with Unison today, and while Unison itself is a nice program, I haven't found all that much that would be worth following regularly.

I was hoping I'd get something science-jobs-related...

Not really, no. Message boards, blogs, and torrents (in chronological order) have rendered it completely obsolescent.

I think spam's what actually hurt it. Unison does contain a sort of directory of useful newsgroups, but it has no "science" section, which is a very annoying omission.
