A drive through the English countryside

Aug 21, 2012 18:27

As usual, I am taking way longer to post than I intended. But here, at last, is the second installment of my grand tour of Europe: a little dose of England.

Bath, Bristol, Salisbury and Stonehenge )

I wish I'd known you were coming over (must pay more attention to my flist) but it sounds like you had a good trip. Nice photos too!

You're the second person to say that - I didn't really announce it before I went. All my planning was a little bit last-minute, and my LJ posting, as you probably realise, has been haphazard at best! I hope to make a longer trip to the UK sometime in the future - I'm completely in love with london, and there are so many other places I really want to see.

Count me as the third! If you are ever back again and want to see a bit of Sussex (including Brighton!) let me know :)

Sounds like a plan! I'm also very keen to see more of Scotland (more on that next post)

Glad you like them - I'm posting on facebook too (though without the detailed travel stories, of course).

What gorgeous photos! I'm glad you had a good trip, and that you enjoyed Stonehenge - many people find it rather small after seeing lots of photos taken from very near the stones. It's certainly not the warmest of places - I went once for winter soltice and was very, very glad that a) my Mum had pressed 3 extra layers on me besides the thermals and fleeces I was already wearing and b) it wasn't raining.

Next time, you'll have to stop in Yorkshire or the Lake District. :)

I certainly will! So many places, so little time. I need another month just for London!

It's so funny reading this and thinking "Yes, exactly! I remember that!" all the time. Except for the stalling, you are exaggerating. It wasn't half as bad as you're making it sound and I was quite impressed with your patience and determination. I certainly didn't mind it, rather on the contrary - I was really grateful that you drove us around all weekend, even when we were all dead tired.

Also your pictures are gorgeous, would you mind me snagging some - just for my own use?

No worries, snag all you want. If there are any you really like - here or on facebook - let me know and I can email you the high-res original.

I love all your pictures. But the 7th one in your post is just absolutely breath-taking every time I see it. Don’t know what it is that draws my attention to it, but it is an amazing picture.

It is rather nice, isn't it? For extra coolness, have aclose look at the mound that those trees are perched on - it's not a natural hill, but a man-made earthwork, built hundreds of years ago.
