An excellent point.

I think it co-exists quite well with an understanding that, while we are not limited by our pasts, our formative years and life experiences profoundly affect they way we view and react to our current world, and understanding how and why helps us to avoid familiar destructive patterns when better paths are available.

It's an ongoing effort.
